School Vision

Courageous learners,
Caring people.

From the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by. It has been an incredibly productive year with lots of achievements to be proud of. I would like to congratulate all staff and students for a successful year and thank all parents for their contributions and support to our school community.

Thank you also to our dedicated School Board and School Board Chairperson, Mr Matthew White as well as the amazing work of the P & C led by President, Mr Joseph Madafferi. We are so fortunate to have such a supportive and engaged school community who give up their time to support and assist our school in achieving the aims set out in our Business Plan. There is very strong research evidence stating that students whose parents are involved in their schooling, have better educational outcomes. I encourage you, where possible, to get involved with the school community, parent help, events and activities.

Madeley’s Got Talent

We were witness to some sensational performances by our students at Madeley’s Got Talent on Wednesday. Congratulations to all performers, from those who auditioned to those who performed on the day, as they were all very impressive performers. I would like to make a special mention of the Madeley Staff who put on their own performance for the students, which was great fun. A very big thank you to Mrs Swift who has dedicated countless hours to auditioning and rehearsing all acts for the show.

The winners were:

1st Place: Tara Grant
2nd Place: Leija Smith & Elora Song
3rd Place (draw): Ansuli Leeuwner
3rd Place (draw): Aimee Bedard, Sophie Cole, Isabella Cole and Mia Bedard

School Reports

School Reports will be emailed out on the afternoon of Monday 12 December. Please ensure that your email and contact details are up to date at the office to enable you to receive them on the day.

Staffing for 2023

I would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff who, unfortunately, will be leaving Madeley at the end of this year, many of whom have won positions at other schools. A very big thank you and best wishes to:

  • Mr Mark Bradstreet
  • Mrs Sammke Burkitt
  • Mrs Ivana Dickinson
  • Mrs Victoria Swift

In addition, we wish Mrs Lauren French all the very best with the arrival of her new bub and Mrs Karin Villemin-Bolt an enjoyable year off.

Specialist Programs 2023

I would like to acknowledge the sensational work of our Music specialists Mr Mark Bradstreet and Mrs Victoria Swift who have provided an amazing music program at Madeley. We also congratulate them for each winning permanent positions at other schools in the fortunate position to have permanency to offer. As you may know, across the state we are having a teacher shortage. As a result of the shortage of Music Specialists, we have not been able to find a suitable replacement. Therefore, we are excited to be running a Performing Arts Specialist Area for 2023 and the wonderful opportunities that this will bring. We did this many years ago, so it will be a exciting change back to performing arts. Some aspects of our Music Program will continue such as the Instrumental Music students, Madeley’s Got Talent, Cluster Muster performances and our School Choir. We are also excited to put on a School Play for 2023 also. Mr Jonathon Townsager, who specialises in performing arts, will be running this program for 2023.

Student Leaders

I would like to thank all of our school leaders for 2022 who were absolutely fantastic and very proudly represented the students of Madeley PS. We took the leaders to a celebratory breakfast on Monday to congratulate and thank them for a job well done. Our Student Leaders for 2023 will be announced at the Awards Ceremony next week.

Classes 2023

Next year, to enable a warm welcome to the start of the school year, we will be holding a Meet and Greet with classroom teachers. On Tuesday 31 Jan 2023 from 2pm – 3pm, we welcome all parents and students to come along to a meet and greet with their new class teacher and unpack their belongings. Please bring along students’ stationery and booklist items to assist them to set up for Day 1 and allow the teachers to welcome and get to know their students. Please note that class lists can only be viewed from 2pm onwards, not before this time.

All parents of 2023 Kindy students received an email on Thursday 1st December with their allocated Meet and Greet time, which for some students, may be slightly different to the remainder of the school. Please refer to your email.

Later that afternoon, we will post class lists on Connect. Upon posting on Connect, we ask that parents do not repost this information to social media or any other location, as this is private information and not for general circulation.

At 2pm, we invite parents and students to view class lists and then attend their Meet & Greet. The class lists will be available at the following locations:

School Security During the Holidays

We rely on the community for support to keep our school secure and safe during the holiday period. Parents are asked to keep an eye on our school during the holiday period and report any suspicious behaviour to Education Security on 9264 4632 or Police 131 444. The Education Security phone number is on signage on the school fencing also.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our staff, students, parents and the wider community a very happy and safe Christmas and holiday season. We all look forward to seeing you all again in 2023.

Kind regards
Lainie Beccegato
Principal

Fremantle Prison Excursion

In Week 8, MLA Block students went on an excursion to Fremantle Prison. The students have been learning all about local historical people and places in HASS this year. Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch at Esplanade Park. We all had a wonderful time!

LIBRARY NEWS

Although borrowing has finished for this year, Mrs Jones has been very busy tidying up the shelves and making room for new books. There are so many new titles for you to enjoy in 2023!

Madeley’s Got Talent

On Wednesday our school was buzzing with excitement as we saw the return of the annual Madeley’s Got Talent show. We had two very special judges come in; Jordan Anthony and Rachael Coltrona who are both local musicians. The judging table was made up of Jordan, Rachael, Mrs Beccagato and Mrs Reeves. To open the show, we had the Madeley School Choir sing Riptide accompanied by a few students playing the ukulele. There was a total of 14 different acts, showcasing a variety of talent, such as dancing, singing, instrumental music and comedy. During the intermission Jordan sang his current single, Higher. We could tell by the excitement on the faces of the audience members that everybody enjoyed the show. Eventually we came to the end of our show, and the students were delighted and amazed to see the school staff put on a performance of Cant’s Stop the Feeling from the Trolls movie. It was then time to present the winners. In first place was Tara with her song New York, by Alicia Keys. Leija and Elora were awarded second place with their very acrobatic dancing. There was a tie for third place between two sets of dancers; Ansuli and the sister group Sophia, Isabella, Mia and Aimee. Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to everyone who participated in this amazing show.

Tara & Sophia (Arts Captains) and Mrs Swift.

Zoo Camp DLA5

On Thursday 1st December DLA5 slept over at Perth Zoo. We arrived at 4:30pm, set up our beds, had pizza and then participated in two learning activities. In one activity the zoo leader explained what enrichments were and how they are used to enhance the lives of animals in the zoo. The next activity focused on endangered Australian animals and the ways Perth Zoo is helping the species survive in captivity and the wild. Although tired by the end, the children excitedly participated in a night walk through the African Savannah. We saw the baboons, lions, Galapagos tortoises, African painted dogs, rhinos and many more. During the day the children explored the zoo and learnt about all the animals.

The Zoo Camp was informative, exciting and a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you to the parent volunteers and teachers for making this event possible.

Zoo Camp GLA1

On Thursday 24th November GLA 1 went on Zoo Camp! We had to race home after school on Thursday to get changed and pick up our bags because the bus left at 3.45pm. After we arrived at the zoo we walked up to the barn where we will be sleeping, set up our beds and went on an adventure. We learnt about the enrichment activities for the animals and how the zoo is helping animals from all over the world. We went on a night walk through the African Savannah and had to duck under a giant spider web! We saw so many animals including the giant Galapagos Tortoise, African Painted Dogs, elephants, lions, tigers and many Australian animals. We even got to watch the zookeepers feed an echidna. Everyone had an amazing time, and we were all exhausted.

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying occurs when technology is used to deliberately and repeatedly engage in unfriendly behaviour to upset and hurt someone. Groups and individuals can be both the perpetrators and targets of bullying.

Cyberbullying can occur in a number of ways including:

  • abusive texts and emails,
  • posting unkind messages or images,
  • imitating others online,
  • excluding others online and
  • inappropriate image tagging

Cyberbullying can happen to anyone, not just children and young people. It can be more damaging than offline bullying as it can occur 24/7, have a very large audience and be difficult to escape. It can invade a young persons social world both online and offline. As with offline bullying, cyberbullying can have long lasting consequences and children need support to manage this.

For more information or support on cyberbullying visit www.raisingchildren.net.au or https://kidshelpline.com.au or http://au.reachout.com

Cyberbullying - Tips For Parents

  • Talk to your child about cyberbullying now. Work with your child to develop strategies for dealing with cyberbullying if it happens.
  • Identify one or two other trusted adults that your child feels comfortable to talk to about cyberbullying.
  • Know what your children are doing online. Set filters so they can be safe online.
  • Communicate openly with your child. Help your child learn how to interact safely and respectfully online.
  • Put the computer in a shared or visible place in the home.
  • Talk with your child about which sites are okay to visit. Have clear rules about their online activity.
  • Help your child to block anyone who sends offensive content.
  • For more information on bullying and cyberbullying visit the Raising Children Network www.raisingchildren.net.au

If you think your child is being cyberbullied…

  • Talk to them about changes in their mood or behaviour. Help them to stay connected with people they trust.
  • Contact the police if you have serious concerns for your child’s safety.
  • Work to save evidence of the cyberbullying behaviour. It may be needed by the child’s school or Internet Service Provider, or by the police.
  • Ask the school to explain their processes around cyberbullying.
  • Don’t ignore the situation. Listen to your child and give them the help they need.
