School Vision
Courageous
learners,
Caring people.
From the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
Welcome back to the final term for 2022. We have an exciting array of activities planned for this term including the Madeley Cup, Remembrance Day, student leadership speeches and selection, camps and excursions, Madeley’s Got Talent, end of year reports and Year 6 graduation. We look forward to a fun and productive final term for the year.
World Teachers’ Day: Today is World Teachers’ Day.
The following is a quote I love; "An educator takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart. “
I would like to thank and acknowledge all of our teachers and education assistants on this special day for their dedication, effort, their time and unwavering commitment to enhancing the social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students at Madeley PS. We thank and applaud you all!
We had a special morning tea to show our admiration and appreciation of our staff. I do hope you can join me in thanking them, in any small way you can, to honour this special day. Thank you.
Parking and safety around the school
A reminder to all parents that parking is not permitted on grassed areas around the school. Additionally, please ensure that you travel slowly around the school zone, keeping a careful eye for any students. We are all committed to the safety of all of our students at Madeley PS.
Planning for 2023
We are starting the process of planning classes and classroom structures for next year. If your child will be leaving Madeley Primary by the end of 2022, please advise the school office as soon as possible by emailing madeley.ps@education.wa.edu.au or 9306 6900.
Student enrolments determine what our staffing allocation will be, so we need to be accurate in our planning. This term we will begin planning classes for 2023. Considerations for how classes are formed include:
- structures based on enrolment numbers per year level and recommended class sizes. Classes are then constructed to maintain a gender balance and an even distribution of student needs/abilities in each class.
- We aim to maintain at least one friendship for each child.
- Composite classes are an inevitability, of which we have no control. Students are not disadvantaged by such arrangements. The same class selection approach is taken in these classes as with all others. We do try our best to avoid repeated years in composite classes, where possible.
The process we use:
- A draft class structure is created based on student enrolment numbers.
- Staff meet to discuss and allocate students to draft classes,
consideration is given to:
a. Student academic needs
b. Student behavioural needs
c. Student social needs
d. Gender balance
e. Previous placement in composite class
f. Parent requests, based on specific educational need - Admin review draft classes and meet with staff to clarify, modify, confirm classes.
- Staff meet to discuss final placements (this may involve multiple meetings)
- Classes will be displayed for parents on Connect. This information is posted on Monday 30th Jan 2023 as there is often a review of class structures when staff return in the new year and a restructure of classes could take place.
Requests related to class placement
If there is a matter, relating to your child’s specific learning needs, that you would like the school leadership team to consider in relation to classroom placements, you may submit a request in writing. Please note that we do not take requests for particular classroom teachers, nor for classroom makeup (ie split classes). Submissions should be emailed before the end of Week 6 – Friday,18th November. Requests received after this time will not be considered. I would like to assure all families that we go to great lengths to structure classes to meet the needs of every student. This is a complex process that is given a great deal of time and effort.
Open Board Meeting
Our next Board meeting is an open board meeting whereby any parents who are not board members are welcome to join us. It is held in the staffroom at 5:30pm on Wednesday 30 Nov.
Open Night
I would like to thank all of the staff for their efforts and dedication in developing fun, interactive learning journeys for their students to take their families on. Thank you to all families for their attendance which makes this evening so worthwhile. Additionally, I would like to thank the P & C and canteen staff for providing the food which added a wonderful atmosphere to the event. Feedback I received was incredibly positive with many parents commenting on how much they loved attending the event and felt very engaged with the school community.
Have a wonderful weekend

Bullying - Support For Your Child At Home
If your child is being bullied, you should always take action.
Give your child as much support and love as you can at home, while you, the teacher and your child come up with a plan for fixing the bullying. Let your child know that the situation is not their fault, and it can be fixed.
Talk to your child about some of the different ways of dealing with bullying behaviour and why these work. This will help your child feel more confident and less powerless about being bullied.
Some ideas:
- Ignore it and move away from the bully. Encourage your child to physically remove themselves from children who are teasing or bullying.
- Tell the bully to stop. Standing up to bullies in a calm way lets them know that what they are trying to do is not working.
- Avoid high-risk places. By keeping away from situations where bullying occurs, your child can avoid the attention of bullies – as long as they are not missing out on activities because of this.
- Stay around other people. It can help to have others around to protect your child if they are feeling threatened.
- Ask other people for support. Others probably understand what your child is going through and are likely to help if needed. Bullies are less likely to strike if they can see that your child has backup.
- Tell the teacher. Your teacher will be able to help your child deal with the problem, and come up with a plan. The bully might not even know that the teacher is helping your child.
