School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
What a busy term we are having and will continue to have for the next two weeks. Term Three is always a busy and productive term and this one has been no exception. Some amendments have had to be made, due to COVID, however all staff and students have taken this in their stride. I would like to thank all staff for their tireless commitment to striving to catch students up as much as possible, after the COVID disruptions earlier in the year.
Students Leaving at the end of the school year
It is of critical importance for us to be informed if a student is leaving as small changes to our student numbers can make a big difference to the way we structure our classes for the following year. Therefore, if your child is leaving the school, could you please send us an email at Madeley.PS@education.wa.edu.au or inform your child’s class teacher as soon as possible.
Faction Carnival and Jumps and Throws
Our Jumps and Throws and Faction Carnival events this week have been very successful. Although we had to make some amendments to the regular timetable to manage the physical distancing of the crowd, it was wonderful to see all of the family members cheering on the children. The students had a successful and fun-filled day. I would like to thank Mr Moon for his organisation of the events. A very big thank you to parents and caregivers who were physically distanced and able to attend on the day to cheer on the students. Unfortunately, due to COVID, the Interschool Faction Carnival was cancelled for this year.
Open Night
We extend the warmest welcome to all families to join us for our Open Night on Wednesday 23rd Sept from 4:30pm – 6:30pm. Due to State Government Phase 4 restrictions on physical distancing, we must manage the adult numbers in the classrooms. Therefore, timeslots for the event MUST be pre-booked with the class teacher by today. Specialist Teachers will have a peg system in place for managing numbers. Finalised timetables will be sent out by classroom teachers in Week 9
Apple One - to - One Program (Year 4 – 6 students)
We encourage parents to purchase a MacBook for the One-to-One program for students entering Year 4 which should last well into high school. Parents can purchase a new or second hand MacBook, with particular specifications. This information will be provided to parents at a later date. The school also has MacBooks that students can use throughout the school day, if necessary. Mr Mario Taddei will host a parent information session next term for parents of current Year 3 students.
Parent Survey
At Madeley PS we value the engagement and feedback of parents. Our annual parent survey provides us with valuable information to assist us in planning for improvement. We use this information each year in our ongoing school self-reflection, with our School Board, our Public School Review planning and in our annual report. I ask that all parents please complete the 5-10min survey. It is due to close on 25th Sept. Thank you in advance for your completion of the survey. The link is as follows:
https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/nHJnfZjK
Cluster Student Leaders
Our student leaders will be attending the Ern Halliday Cluster Student Leaders Day Camp on Monday 21st September. School Banking
School Banking is back!
Every Wednesday in the Library 8.30am – 8.45am
Get involved in the School Banking program
Madeley Primary is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. We do request that parents/students still observe the social distancing requirements whilst attending the school library.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2020 are:
- Terry Denton’s Activity Book
- Mini Soccer Ball (size 2)
- Treetop Stationary Set
- Treetop Handball
- Tomato Seed Kit
- Magic Mist Drink Bottle
- Emoji Wallet
- Snakes & Ladders Game
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online
Visit at the link below and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
https://www.commbank.com.au/banking/school-banking.html
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is Wednesday. Each week you need to see Trish and Robyn in the Library. The first session this year will be the 19th of February.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2020 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit at the link below.

School Chaplain
Over the next two newsletters I will be writing about Social Media and how you can educate yourself and your children about responsible and safe use of Social Media.
Social media has become very popular amongst kids so parents need to put in place some written guidelines that can help your child get the benefits of social media while using it responsibly, respectfully and safely. This agreement could be part of a family media plan . If these guidelines include your social media use as well as your child’s, you can be a positive role model.
Here are some points on what to talk about when it comes to using social media and what you should and shouldn’t post online.
Using social media
This might cover basics like:
- When it’s OK to use social media and how long your child can spend on social media,
- Whether it’s OK to use social media during homework time, family meals and so on,
- Where it’s OK to use social media – for example, only in family areas of the house, not bedrooms.
Posting content and comments
It’s important for your child to agree to:
- Not uploading or sharing inappropriate messages, images and video or themselves or others,
- Being cautious about the information that they share,
- Being a responsible digital citizen by showing respect in posts and when sharing content – for example, if it’s not OK to say or do something face to face, it’s not OK online.
