School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
We have had a busy start to Term 2 and students have actively engaged into their term of work.
NAPLAN Testing
NAPLAN testing begins next Tuesday 14th May for Year 3 and Year 5 students. Please ensure your students are well rested and have a suitable breakfast to assist them in doing their very best in their testing. Testing will all be conducted online, other than Year 3 Writing Test which is a paper and pencil test. If a child is away during the testing time, we will endeavour to try to catch them up on their tests, if time permits.
Madeley’s Biggest Morning Tea
On Tuesday 7th May, we shared a wonderful morning tea for Madeley families and staff with all proceeds raised for the Cancer Council. We had around 100 people in attendance and were lucky enough to raise over $1700. We would like to thank Mr Mayunk Patel, who very generously donated $500 for the cause. Thank you also to all of the families and staff who supported our event and we hope you had a lovely time, as we did. I would like to thank the staff who worked so hard to make this event such a success. We do hope that the money raised will help to create a cancer-free future for all of us.
Thank you to our wonderful Sponsors: Big W Kingsway, BWS Kingsway, Alanda Caffe Kingsway, Muffin Break Kingsway, Sushi Blue Kingsway, Jetts Gym Kingsway, Priceline Kingsway, Mc Donalds Kingsway, Health Save Pharmacy Kingsway, Citrine Beauty & Day Spa, Doterra Ashleigh Beech, Rita Fordham, Kaitie Cawthorne, AnnMaree Miller and June Hondris.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Board Members Gemma Wright and Alec Weston. We look forward to their positive contribution to our School Board.
Cluster Strategic Plan
I have attached the Cluster Strategic Plan for 2019 – 2021. The plan encompasses the following initiatives:
- Effective pedagogical practices
- The early years (0 – 5)
- Cluster leadership and community partnerships
- Common data collection and cluster professional learning
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
As a cluster, we collaborate to share best practice in teaching and learning to enhance student achievement and engagement and to provide a seamless transition to high school.
Artwork Competition
We recently held a competition for the students to enable us to select a piece of artwork, that represented Madeley PS, that we could print onto thank you cards that we use through the office. We are pleased to announce that Chloe Walton (Yr 3) and Adam Schneider (Yr 5) were our runners up. The winner was Lily Robinson in Year 5 for her beautiful artwork design of Madeley PS.
I wish you all an enjoyable weekend

Incursions/Excursions
Tamala Park
Last term, GLA2 & GLA4 boarded a bus and headed to Tamala Park Waste Management Park. The students were treated to a tour around the tip and saw where all the waste from around Perth ends up.
Students also visited the educational centre to learn all about how the tip works and discussed the importance of REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE in everyday life.
This excursion consolidated their learning of Sustainability and Waste Wise strategies in there Geography studies.

Sustainability Day
Sustainability Day 2019 was a huge success and was enjoyed by both students and staff. Years K-6 participated in 4 activities across the day. These activities included Educated by Nature, worm farming, beeswax sandwich wrap making, Indigenous science, and an Assembly led by an Indigenous elder. Students learnt lots of valuable information and had great experiences.
MPS is part of sustainable schools WA. We have an edible garden from which we grow and sell crops at big assemblies. We also sell worm wiz produced by the worms in our two worm farms. Worm Wiz will help your garden loads so be sure to purchase some at big assemblies. Please ask your kids about sustainability as Sustainability Day has taught them a lot.

As the year progresses we will add some more healthy choices. Recipes /ideas are most welcome – just remember we cannot cook with raw meats in the canteen.
Last week we had one of our students (senior girl) hand in some money to the canteen that another student had lost. Unfortunately I did not get her name but if that student would like to come in and see me I would like to shout her a Slushie or an icecream for her honesty as the other student was most grateful when the money was returned.
Thank you to all the students and teachers for getting the lunch baskets into the canteen on time. We have a competition running for the class with the most points they all get an ice-cream at the end of the year. Current Leaders are BLA2 Mr Taddei and DLA3 Mrs Smith
