School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers,
Welcome Back
Welcome back to school for Term 2. We are looking forward to another busy and productive term of fun and learning at Madeley. A few important events taking place this term include the commencement of our Playgroup Trial, opening of our new Nature Play space, NAPLAN Online testing for students in Years 3 and 5, cross-country running and lightning carnivals and our annual school photos. Dates for these events are on the school calendar.
School Website
As you may know, our school website has been offline since the end of last year. We hope to have a new website available in the next couple of weeks. Schoolzine will be hosting our new site. The site will provide important school information, P&C and School Board news, information about school programs, policy statements, useful links to online resources and a means of contacting our school. We will notify everyone via Connect when the site becomes available.
Nature Play Space
The last few components of our new nature play area will be delivered and installed in the next couple of weeks. Wanneroo Rotary donated the water tank which is part of the water play section. We thank them very much for this kind donation. Your P&C contributed a significant amount of money towards the construction of the space and we thank them for their tireless efforts. The P&C are conducting a sausage sizzle at the new Bunnings in Wangara this Sunday so we encourage everyone to go along and buy something. Remember that every dollar you spend ends up back in our school making a difference for your kids. More information is available via the P&C Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/groups/madeleypandc/
Playgroup Trial
A trial for the new Madeley Primary School Playgroup will commence next Monday 7th May. The playgroup will be for 0 – 5 year old children who live in Madeley or will be attending our school. Flyers were sent out last term and we have over 30 children registered to attend. If you need more information please contact Mrs Beccegato (Deputy Principal) Lainie.Beccegato@education.wa.edu.au.
Staffing Term 2
Changes to staffing this term include:
- Mr Ford will continue as Mr Taddei’s replacement until the end of this term.
- Mrs Avins will replace Mrs Villar on Mondays in LLA1
- Mrs Mackie will replace Ms Horrocks in the Art Room on Tuesdays
- Mrs Fletcher (School Psych) will commence Maternity Leave and be replaced by Mrs Crow in Week 5.
Sustainability
Madeley Primary School is part of the Sustainable Schools Initiative. This initiative helps to address the Sustainability cross curriculum priority within the Australian Curriculum. Mrs Price has been leading this initiative in our school.
The Sustainability Day, held at the end of Term 1, was a big success due to Mrs Price’s planning. She was also successful in receiving a grant to assist in further activities in our school. New mulching bins, recycling tubs and tools have been purchased for use as part of the program. Mrs Price is interested in forming a Sustainability Committee with parents who can volunteer some time to run a recycling station. If you are interested please email her Sally.Price2@education.wa.edu.au.
Parents are encouraged to think about our environment when packing lunch for their children. There are plenty of ways to reduce waste by not wrapping food in plastic or paper. Try using a reusable lunch box or bag and send drinks in a thermos or drink bottle rather than a drink box.
NAPLAN Online
Our Year 3 and 5 students will be completing NAPLAN online for the first time in 2018. The tests are scheduled for Week 3 and 4 of this term. We have participated in a trial in order to ensure that the online testing runs smoothly. Parents of students in Year 3 and 5 have already received a flyer outlining the assessment process. For more information you can check out the NAPLAN website or contact Danielle Stitfold (Deputy Principal).
Reporting to Parents
This term student reports will be sent home for the first time using Connect and email. Benefits of this include:
- timely delivery of reports
- administrative savings in the printing and collation of reports
- an ability to easily provide copies of reports to each parent or guardian according to family circumstances
- parents being able to retain a digital record of student achievement
Reports will be available on Wednesday 27th June.
School Dress Code
The Department of Education has a clear policy regarding dress codes for students in public schools which can be obtained via this link – Dress Codes for Students in Public Schools Policy and Procedures.
“Dress codes are a tangible evidence of the standards expected of students and play an important role in promoting positive images of schools. A school’s dress code supports all students to participate fully in school life. Dress codes can help create a sense of identity and a school culture in which every student experiences a sense of belonging.” - Department Policy
Our school is currently reviewing its policy to ensure it fully complies with the Department’s requirements. A revised policy will be available later in the year. In the meantime, it is essential that students continue to wear a school endorsed uniform which includes the school hat and jumper/jacket. If students do not have items of clothing supplied via the uniform shop they should wear alternate items that match the school colours. Please do not send students to school wearing clothing that does not match our school uniform. Students that are not in school uniform will not be permitted to attend extra-curricular activities or school excursions. We look forward to your ongoing support of our school by ensuring your children wear the correct clothing.
Have a great term everyone!

ANZAC
Madeley Primary School 2018 Anzac Ceremony
The Anzac service was held on Thursday 12th April to commemorate 103 years since the Gallipoli campaign. The ceremony was run by a confident group of Year 6 students. This year the guests were piped into the ceremony area by piper Chris Macaulay from the WA Police Pipe band. The bagpipes set the scene for the beautiful and moving ceremony that followed.
Among the invited guests was Flight Lieutenant Shannon Monk from the RAAF Base Pearce, the Mayor Tracey Roberts from the City of Wanneroo, the Honourable Doctor Anne Aly MP, Sherryl Paternoster representing the Honourable Michael Mischin MLC, Luke Simpkins representing Lara Simpkins from the City of Wanneroo, Mrs Kylie Bottcher, Principal Ashdale Secondary College and Mr Peter Withnell, Madeley P & C President.
Our guest speaker was Flight Lieutenant Shannon Monk from the RAAF Base Pearce. Her speech included many valuable messages and this year she also made reference to the animals that carried out important tasks both now and during wartime. Two student leaders commenced the wreath laying ceremony by laying a purple poppy wreath to remember all the animals and to acknowledge their service to our country.
Following a flag procession that included the Australian, the Aboriginal and the New Zealand flags, 20 doves were released to represent the symbol of peace.
Thank you to family and friends who attended our ceremony this year.

Sustainability Day
Authors Che & Ethan, Sustainability Captains.
Captain cleanup is a “superhero” that persuades kids to look after the earth and to not litter. Then the Aboriginal tribe elder told us a few aboriginal words and started the day. The two aboriginals that came then started a camp fire with eucalyptus leaves and stone.
Some of the activities included; boomerang throwing, worm farming with professionals, learning about how aboriginals savoured the land, black, red and yellow hand prints to represent the aboriginal flag , learning about how aboriginals made axes and there was also stone painting. The handprint canvas is being held in the AAA just inside the door.
Then, at the end of the day captain cleanup told us a few tips through song and action: use half flush instead of full flush unless it is a number 2. To only flush the three P’s Pee, Poo and Paper and “to not place funny things down the dunny”. To make sure you shorten the sprinkler 2 minutes less than what it was originally. To check if your shower head is efficient and new or get a knew one: hold a 10L bucket under it if it over flows after 30 seconds that means that it needs a new one that is water efficient, if it does not over flow its good shower head.

STEM
LLA5 STEM Project: The Most Magnificent Thing
This term the Year Ones in LLA5 have been working hard on their STEM projects. We started by reading the fiction book "The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires where a little girl created some incredible items using recycled materials. We began by collecting recyclable materials and sorted these into different categories depending on what they were made out of. We put this information into a bar graph. In small groups we tested the materials to investigate if they were waterproof, transparent or strong. Using this information we then came up with a design for our Most Magnificent Thing and chose the best material for our projects. Our project had to have a clear purpose and we had to follow our design plan carefully to create our Most Magnificent Things! Check out some of our amazing creations!

School Banking
What's School Banking?
The School Banking program provides a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good saving habits.
Run nationally since 1931 through participating primary schools, School Banking encourages children to regularly deposit money into their Youthsaver account and earn silver Dollarmites tokens, which can then be redeemed for an exciting reward through our School Banking Rewards Program.
Get your child started
Madeley Primary School participates in School Banking, all you’ll need to do is open a Youthsaver account for your child or they can use their existing one. If they require a Dollarmites deposit wallet for their existing Youthsaver account, please call CommBank 13 2221 anytime or visit your nearest branch.
The Youthsaver account is a savings account that has no monthly account fees and offers a competitive bonus interest rate when you make at least one deposit and no withdrawals in a calendar month on balances up to $50,000.
This year the school banking will be held on
Wednesday morning in the Library from 8.30 – 8.50am. Please enter the Library through the side entrance – playground side.
Trish Johnson and Robyn Walton have volunteered to be banking Co-ordinators this year. If you have any queries, please contact them or come and see them on Wednesday morning in the Library.

At Camp Australia we have been super busy over the Autumn break, between having a blast at our Aussie All-Stars Holiday Clubs and finding ways that we can add more value for parents with our new Flexible Booking Options. While we make improvements to the Flex-e-Care e-card, it will be removed from our purchase options; we’ll bring it back when we are confident it can suit your needs. We have updated our premium offering of the Gold Membership. This option has no late booking fees and no cancellation fees up to 2 hours before the service. Saving Childhood: The Key Building Blocks to Protecting Childhood
Children are shaped by the choices made by adults, experiences they have and the world as they see it through their eyes. Maggie’s common-sense, practical model of 10 building blocks will reassure parents and those who work with children that what they have always known to be important in the early years of a child’s life is still important! In this seminar, Maggie will take participants through her key building blocks with a special focus on how to reduce the unhealthy influences of our modern consumer-driven world like sexualisation, marketing, media & technology. This is a call to save childhood from being stolen by our modern world.

The DM Football Academy (DMFA) core purpose is to develop the child’s football and movement skills as well as their social and emotional skill development. DMFA identifies the social and emotional capabilities that all young people need to acquire in order to be successful in school, experience well-being and have positive relationships. We pride ourselves in developing programs that are engaging, supportive, non-competitive and improvement based. This website contains information in regards to the work we do and adheres to providing free resources to support parents, teachers, students and coaches. We have a strong relationship with industry stakeholders and encourage our students to be lifelong and valued members of the community.
