School Vision
Courageous learners,
Caring people.
From the Principal
Dear Parents & Caregivers
Easter On The Green: We were very excited that our big event was reinstated last Friday, after a three year hiatus due to Covid. I would really like to acknowledge the P & C, in particular Carolyne Cole and her band of merry organisers that have worked so tirelessly to make this event happen. I would like to also thank Kane Pountney for allowing us use of his AV equipment, Kenny Yu SLP Realty our major sponsor, Margaret Quirk MLA, Castlegate Family Dental, Jeremy McLernon (Terry White Pharmacy Kingsway), Krusty Kob Bakery Warwick, Adam Marinich from Totally Workwear Mt Hawthorn and Natalie Herridge – Wanneroo Councillor for their much-appreciated support. It was great to see so many community members enjoying the festivities on what was a wonderful night raising approximately $6,500!
Swimming Lessons: Our PP to Year 6 students are currently participating in swimming lessons throughout the last two weeks of term. The students have behaved beautifully and are having a wonderful time learning the necessary swimming and water safety skills, particularly for living in WA.
Year 4 Camp: This year will see a change for Year 4 camp. Unfortunately, Perth Zoo no longer offer camps, so after much research, this year we will be moving Year 4 Camp to a night at AQWA. Students will have the opportunity to discover more about our amazing marine animals with a night of exclusive tours, fun marine-themed activities designed to educate and enthral, and a sleepover in Australia's largest single aquarium surrounded by sharks, stingrays and hundreds of stunning fish! The following day will see students exploring the local beaches searching for Flotsam and Jetsam amongst other marine and conservation activities. Keep your eyes out for further information.
School Timetable: Our school timetable will be slightly amended starting next term. School start and finish times will remain the same. Lunch will now be 11.08am – 11.38am and afternoon recess will be 1.26pm – 1.56pm.
Parking: Our students’ safety is our primary concern. Therefore, safe and legal parking around our school continues to be an ongoing concern. We kindly remind all parents to do the right thing by driving and parking safely and legally around our school. Kiss-and-Drive bays are not for parking and should be vacated as quickly as possible to maintain the flow of traffic. However, they can be parked in between 9:30am – 2:20pm. Parking in the driveway of the Pre-Primary car park and on pathways is illegal and parking on the grassed areas surrounding parking areas is also not permitted as it results in safety concerns. Please be patient and wait until a car bay becomes available. Patience, kindness and respect are all virtues we need to model when driving and parking around our school. We thank you for your consideration.
Students walking to school: Safety concerns have also been raised regarding students crossing Cooper Street, near Olivedale Road. This is a busy corner before and after school and we ask families to remind their children to be vigilant when crossing the road. Perhaps asking children to cross before or after the intersection will reduce the risk of crossing Cooper Street.
Uniforms: A reminder that all students must wear their broad-brimmed school hat at all recess and lunch times in support of our ‘No Hat, No Play’ policy. This policy is in place all year round. With the cooler weather commencing I would like to remind you to ensure all clothing is clearly labelled, especially school jumpers. We find many jumpers strewn around the school on a daily basis and cannot return them to their owners if they are not labelled.
Lost Property: The Lost Property box is outside the Undercover Area. Students and parents should check this for lost items and only take things that belong to them. Unclaimed school uniform items are eventually recycled.
School Security During the Holidays: We rely on the community for support to keep our school secure and safe during the holiday period. Parents are asked to keep an eye on our school during the holiday period and report any suspicious behaviour to Education Security on 9264 4632 or Police 131 444. The Education Security phone number is also on signage around the outside of the school fencing.
I hope all families enjoy a wonderful school holiday break. We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 24th April, 2023. Please note that Tuesday 25th April is an ANZAC Day public holiday.
Kind regards,
Lainie Beccegato

School Board Profile
Recent feedback from our school survey showed that families wanted more information regarding our school board. As such we will be providing board member profiles in each upcoming newsletter.
Hi, I'm Katie Cawthorne. I have been an Education Assistant at Madeley Primary School since 2010. I currently work in Pre-Primary. I enjoy seeing the huge growth in their learning as they begin to read and write. Previously I ran the MiniLit intervention program. This is my 4th year on our School Board. I love being at Madeley Primary and have made great relationships with students and families.
Hi, I’m Tania Smart. I’m an Education Assistant at Madeley Primary School. I’ve mainly worked in Early Childhood and have been at the school over 10 years. Prior to that I worked at the Australian Taxation Office for 23 years. This is my first time on the board and I’m looking forward to contributing to the fantastic school that I am a part of.

At Saver Plus, we pair you with a savings coach while you budget and save over the next 10 months. You attend online workshops to learn tips, tricks and information to grow your budgeting and savings skills. You can use that money towards education costs such as uniforms, text books, laptops or extra-curricular activities such as sport or music.
You could be eligible to join Saver Plus if you:
- have a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
- are at least 18 years old
- have some regular income from work (you or your partner) including casual, part-time, full-time or seasonal (we also accept child support and carer’s payment as income)

School Nurse
How Much Physical Activity Should My Child Be Doing?
- School age children need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. But more is better, so encourage your child to be active for up to several hours each day.
- Children need a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. ‘Moderate activity’ is any activity which is similar in intensity to a brisk walk e.g. bike riding or active playing. ‘Vigorous activity’ is any activity which makes your child “huff and puff” e.g. organised sports, ballet, running or swimming laps.
- Any activity that requires your child to expend energy should be encouraged. Go to http://raisingchildren.net.au for more information.
Physical Activity - Family Activities
If you’re looking for ways to help your family be more active, why not try:
- walking or riding to school together
- visiting the beach to play cricket or Frisbee
- taking the dog for a walk
- doing some gardening (try building a veggie patch!)
- visiting the local swimming pool
- playing at the park together;
- going for a bike ride
- bush walking
- outings that involve walking (like the zoo)
- participating in a community walk
- buying children presents that encourage physical activity (like sports equipment or a kite).
