School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear parents and carers,
Good afternoon parents and carers,
Term Three has been rushing by with this being the conclusion of Week 6 already.
We held our Book Week Parade yesterday which was a wonderful display of many fun and imaginative costumes, representing the myriad of the students’ favourite books. It was another fabulous event. The Book Fair was a huge success with the school raising $ 6,631.10 including $2,000 going towards the purchase of library books. I would like to express my thank you to Mrs Maree Jones our Library Officer for her amazing organisation of the Book Fair.
Next week, we celebrate Science Week. The theme for this year is Glass. The students will be hands on with lots of interactive science experiments. Mr Keunen has a wonderful competition running also. It should be a fun and informative week.
School Survey
Your feedback is important to us at Madeley PS. We use your feedback to plan for improvement in how we support our students to achieve their best socially, emotionally and academically. Our staff all work really hard to grow courageous learners, caring people, which is our school vision.
We ask parents to kindly spend 5 – 10 min to provide us with feedback via our School Survey. This feedback is shared with staff and the School Board to plan for improvement. The feedback link will be available until COB Tuesday 6 Sept.

Faction Carnival
Our Faction Carnival last week was a great success. Congratulations to Storm faction again on yet another win for 2022. I would like to thank all of our students for having so much fun and for demonstrating the ‘Madeley Way’ of showing respectful behaviour on the day. Additionally, thank you to the staff for their hard work in making it an incredibly successful day. Also, I would like to extend my gratitude to Mr Jarred Moon for his efforts, hard work and flawless organisation of the day. Lastly, I would like to thank the parents for their attendance on the day in support of the students.
Open Night
Madeley PS staff would like to invite all parents to our annual Open Night. The evening is for the purpose of engaging parents in a journey of what our students have been learning this term. This is such a positive experience for teachers, parents and students. The event will take place on Wednesday 14 Sept from 4:30pm – 6:30pm in each child’s classroom and specialist areas.
To nourish you throughout the Open Night session, the P & C will be holding food stalls in addition to the canteen being open for food and drink sales.
COVID
As per State Government directions, we ask that any students or adults who are unwell, please stay home. If a household member has tested positive to COVID, please ensure that other household members are RAT tested each morning for 7 days. If students RAT test negative to COVID each day, they may attend school.
A reminder to parents that Madeley PS is still required to regularly clean school play equipment and therefore cannot permit playing on play equipment, before or after school. I ask that you support us in ensuring a safe environment by carefully supervising all pre-school siblings to prevent them from playing also.
Bushfire Plan
Due to the Bushfire Season beginning in September, schools are required to have a Bushfire Plan. Please find the attached map of the evacuation route of students and the evacuation meeting point where staff and students will meet, in the unlikely event of a bushfire emergency. We will continue to have evacuation and fire drills in the future to rehearse and refine our processes.
Enrolments for 2023
The accuracy of our enrolment information, when planning for next year, is of utmost importance. If your child/ren will not be attending Madeley PS for 2023, we kindly ask that you email our front office or phone 9306 6900 as soon as possible to let us know. Additionally, if you know of anyone wishing to join us for 2023, please ask them to contact the front office as soon as possible. Thank you.
Road Safety
The safety of our beautiful Madeley PS children is of critical important to us all. I ask that parents please take extra caution when travelling around our school at all times. Please drive slowly and beware of students who may not be paying attention.
Additionally, I kindly ask parents to remind their children to wear helmets, riding their bikes on the correct side of the road and to put mobile phones or other distractors away when walking near or on roads.
Parking
Parking on the grass areas around the school grounds is not permitted. Parking is only permitted in marked bays around the school.
Additionally, a reminder to all parents that the staff carpark is not a Kiss and Ride nor for parking. The Kiss and Ride is right outside of the staff carpark on Martindale Ave and it is this location that parents are permitted to drop off students, if dropping at the front of the school. The staff carpark is only permitted for access by staff and other visitors to the school, who are not family members or carers of students.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Lainie Beccegato
Principal

Year 3’s Arty Adventure!!
Excursion to Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) - 11th August 2022
Year 3’s all enjoyed their journey through the “Boorungur” (Totem) Textile Workshop & tour of Indigenous Art Collection two weeks ago. The Visual Arts Curriculum formally introduces Australian Indigenous Art in year 3, so there is no better way to do it than immersing them an experience like this one.
The sun was out, and the day was a great success!! Everything went off without a hitch!
Massive thanks to our wonderful team of parent helpers, Year 3 Teachers, MPS office ladies and of course the highly knowledgeable AGWA Staff for their valuable contributions.
Student masterpieces made in the Boorungur (Totem) Textile Workshop will be on display in the Art Room on Open Night in week 9. Please come along! But for now, Enjoy the pictures!!
Thanks and best regards,
Michelle Horrocks

Anxiety – How To Help Your Child
All children experience anxious feelings as part of their normal childhood development. Some anxious feelings include fear, agitation, nervousness, worry and apprehension. Some children find it harder to get these feelings under control and may experience anxiety more intensely and more often than others.
Anxiety is when the level of fear or worry about something is out of proportion to the level of risk or danger. Thinking about the situation makes them more worried and tense.
If your child is experiencing anxiety try to:
- Acknowledge your child’s fear – don’t dismiss or ignore it.
- Gently encourage them to do things they’re anxious about, but don’t push them to face situations they’re not yet ready to face.
- Wait until they actually get anxious before you step in to help
- Praise him for doing something they’re anxious about, rather than criticising them for being afraid.
- Avoid labelling your child as ‘shy’ or ‘anxious’.
Your child might need some extra support if their anxiety stops them from doing the things they want to do or interferes with their friendships, school work or family life.
If you are worried about your child, contact your local Community Health Nurse, School Psychologist or General Practitioner. For more information about anxiety in children go to
