School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear parents and carers,
Term 2 has been an incredibly busy and productive term. We have had waves of large student and staff absences due to COVID, however, it does seem to be plateauing at this time. I would like to thank all students and families for their ongoing support throughout these challenging times, we really appreciate all parents keeping their children home when they are sick.
Madeley PS Business Plan 2022 – 2024
I would like to acknowledge our hard working and committed staff and School Board for their collaboration in developing our strategic directions for the next three years. This business plan depicts the data we will be collecting to meet our targets, our professional learning and staff meeting content, priority areas and future directions of our school. Please keep an eye out as we will be sending home a copy for all families today.
Ashdale Cluster Strategic Plan 2022 – 2024
Ashdale Cluster has a Cluster Board consisting of each primary school principal and their respective board chairperson who meet each semester to guide and foster the cluster strategic directions. As a cluster of schools we have developed our Strategic Plan. Please see the link below. This strategic plan guides our termly meetings with all cluster staff and ensures we have a common approach to delivering a seamless K – 12 learning environment.

Kindy 2023 Enrolments
Kindy 2022 enrolments close on Friday 22nd July, which is the end of Week 1 next term. If you know of anyone whose child is born between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019, please let them know that enrolments close soon. As Kindergarten is a non-compulsory year at school, we make plans for how classes are structured based on the number of students enrolled as of the closing date. Sometimes there may still be places available for latecomers however, we don’t always have the space to accommodate them. Therefore, lodging enrolments before the closing date is of paramount importance.
School Development Day
Monday 18th July is a School Development Day and as such, staff will be engaged in professional learning in Mathematics, the teaching of vocabulary and our school psychologist will be engaging us in one of two sessions of Trauma Informed Practice. Trauma Informed Practice guides us with how best to manage children impacted by complex trauma. Our staff will be undertaking 2 sessions to support us to better support children in this situation.
We welcome our students back to school on Tuesday 19th July.
NAIDOC Week
As part of our NAIDOC celebrations next week, all classes will be involved in painting a tile to decorate the back wall of the staffroom that faces the big ‘A.’ Over the next few years, our Aboriginal Cultural Standards Team will be developing the area to include a beautiful wall mural and yarning circle to celebrate and recognise Aboriginal culture. The theme for NAIDOC Week this year is ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’. All classrooms will be engaged in NAIDOC activities throughout the week.
Swimming Lessons
Our PP to Year 6 students participated in swimming lessons over the last two weeks. The students were beautifully behaved and had a wonderful time learning the necessary swimming and water safety skills, particularly for living in WA. Our bus company contacted me to commend us on our wonderful students’ behaviour throughout the duration of swimming lessons. We are very fortunate to receive wonderful feedback such as this often from outside agencies and venues.
School Reports
This semester’s reports will be emailed out on Monday 27th June. Please ensure that your email contact details are up to date. The link is only active for two weeks, so please ensure that you download the report as soon as you receive it.
School Security During the Holidays
We rely on the community for support to keep our school secure and safe during the holiday period. Parents are asked to keep an eye on our school during the holiday period and report any suspicious behaviour to Education Security on 9264 4632 or Police 131 444. The Education Security phone number is also on signage around the outside of the school fencing.
I hope all families enjoy a wonderful school holiday break. We look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 19th July 2022.
Kind regards,
Lainie Beccegato
Principal
Madeley PS

BLA1 News
The Year 6 BLA1 class was fortunate enough to have an excellent practicum teacher from ECU this term. Her name was Miss Emily Tann. On her last day she invited her fiancé to come and meet the class. He is professional basketball player, Nick Kay. He is currently playing for the Japanese Basketball League and had previously been a member of the Perth Wildcats. He also won a bronze medal at the Olympics playing with the Boomers. We were very lucky to hear his story, ask plenty of questions and hold his bronze medal, which was very heavy.

GLA4 News
In GLA4 we have been looking at procedures in English. We have explored the author’s purpose of writing these text types, and then had a go creating some of our own procedures for others to follow.
By using hands on activities, students are able to see the importance of giving and receiving explicit instructions. They have been able to understand how the order of the steps and the vocabulary associated with the texts helps the reader make sense of the writing.
In class, we had to follow instructions on “How to Make a Pirate Hat” and then we wrote the procedures for “How to Make a Pizza” and then followed our instructions to create a pizza for Recess!

Robotics team
Introducing Madeley’s first Robotics team!
In Week 5, our Year 5 and 6 students attended an information session about the FIRST LEGO League Robotics Competition given by Miss Jane. Students who were interested in joining the team had to write an application. There were 25 applications and only 8 students were chosen.
Now the hard work begins! Our team will meet during one break every week, as well as an hour after school on Mondays, to participate in our competition in November. We must complete a group research project and design and code the robot to complete a series of missions. The 2022 missions won’t be released until August, so we are borrowing an old model from Ashdale Secondary College to help us practise. Thank you ASC!
We are very fortunate to have Mrs Vincent and Miss Jane to help coach our team, however, we are always looking for more volunteers. If you know of anyone who has an interest in coding and robotics, and are willing to volunteer some of their time, we would love to hear from you!

Canteen News
The canteen has been very busy these past few weeks! While over-the-counter sales were down a little during swimming lessons, the trial of many different lunch meals have been very well received by both staff and students!

We are excited to announce the hiring of an additional canteen staff member following an incredibly successful and profitable period in the canteen. Carli Williams will be joining the team in a coordinator capacity to keep the profit momentum up! Welcome back Carli. With Carli onboard, the incredible, above and beyond work of Giao Valenti and Rebecca Dundon will be lightened. We take this opportunity to thank Giao and Bec for their ongoing dedication to the enhancement of the canteen. Many thanks to Lisa and Cindy for their enthusiasm and adaptability as we trial new ways of doing things.

School Nurse
School Entry Health Assessment
All children in Western Australia are eligible for a School Entry Health Assessment when they are of school entry age. The School Entry Health Assessment is provided by the local School Health Nurse. It is an excellent opportunity to look at the health and development of your child at the beginning of school life.
The assessments are simple, non-invasive, quick and easy. They screen for problems which are best addressed, if picked up and treated early. The assessments include:
- Vision
- Hearing
- Teeth
- Growth (including weight, height and Body Mass Index).
Your child’s results will be sent home after their health check has been completed. Results are always treated confidentially.
Please note, if the assessment results for your child suggest there may be a concern, the School Health Nurse will contact you to discuss.
School Entry Health Assessment forms are currently being distributed for parents to complete. Please complete and sign the back page of the form before you return it.
Please return the form to the class
teacher as soon as possible.
Kindy assessments start in Feb
and will continue until December.
I look forward to working with you and your family.
