From the Principal
Dear parents and carers
I’d like to acknowledge families for your ongoing support and assistance as we continue to navigate the current climate and manage an increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the school. Over the past few weeks we have successfully worked through a number of scenarios, and will no doubt see this continue to evolve as case numbers continue to rise. I would like to thank all families for their understanding and compliance with the isolation rules as we move through the pandemic.
In terms of COVID rules to commence Term 2, unfortunately parents will still not be permitted to enter classrooms. Our video streaming of assemblies for parents to watch from where ever they are, has been a huge hit. Therefore, we will continue to deliver this method of assembly presentation for Term 2.
Annual Report
Our school’s Annual Report for 2021 will be available on our website by the end of the term. This was endorsed by the School Board last week. The Annual Report outlines the achievements and progress of the school throughout 2021. We hope you enjoy reading the celebrations we had in 2021, particularly our excellent NAPLAN results. These achievements are the best results we have ever had and we are very proud of this. I would like to thank all staff for their commitment to doing our best for the students of Madeley PS.
Harmony Week
Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. Last week, Madeley PS celebrated Harmony Week with students participating in a range of activities. Students were also encouraged to wear orange on Friday to signify social communication. In addition to lots of classroom activities across the school, Ms Horrocks organised each class to decorate a series of letters and numbers. The Art Captains then displayed these letters at the front of the AAA block to reveal HARMONY WEEK 2022, it looked spectacular. We would like to thank Ms Horrocks for organising this wonderful activity to bring our school community together.
Voluntary Contributions and Charges 2022
A friendly reminder to parents; all families who pay their contributions and charges account by the end of this term will enter the draw to win a $200 Woolworths gift card. I would like to acknowledge and thank all families who have already paid their fees this year. These funds go towards purchasing resources for our specialist areas as well as for early childhood classrooms.
School Board
I would like to welcome Michelle De Luca, Kevin Raykos, Monique Forde and Sally Price to the School Board for their three-year tenure. I would also like to welcome Matthew White to his new position on the School Board, Matthew was successfully nominated as Board Chair last Wednesday night. I would like to thank our outgoing member, Louise Mayvis, for her contributions over her time on the School Board. I would particularly like to thank our outgoing Board Chair, Paul Thomas, whose commitment and passion will be sorely missed.
P&C
I would like to welcome Joe Madafferi to his new position as President of the P&C for 2022. I would also like to thank our outgoing President, Mark Paulton, for his dedication, time and hard work during his tenure.
ANZAC Ceremony
Madeley Primary will be hosting our ANZAC service on Thursday 7th April at 8:50am. Year 6 classes will attend this service, with all other classes watching remotely. Students will have the opportunity to lay flowers or wreaths at the flag poles before school begins that day if they wish. Thank you to Mrs Chester for all the time and effort she puts into the organisation of this beautiful ceremony.
Swimming Lessons
Our school swimming lessons for PrePrimary – Year 6 is scheduled to begin in Week 7 after the WA Day weekend in June. Due to the current COVID climate, we will make a decision closer to this time to assess whether the lessons will go ahead or not. We will provide further information next term.
School Security During the Holidays
We rely on the community for support to keep our school secure and safe during the holiday period. Parents are asked to keep an eye on our school during the holiday period and report any suspicious behaviour to Education Security on 9264 4632 or Police 131 444. The Education Security phone number is on signage on the school fencing also.
We look forward to students returning to begin Term 2 on Tuesday, 26th April after ANZAC Day.
I would like to wish everyone a wonderful and safe Easter and holiday break.

Harmony Week
Last week at Madeley Primary School the teachers and students (K-6) gathered their collective powers of creativity to present their piece of this year’s whole school art collaboration for Harmony Week, which is currently on display in the AAA.
I adapted the idea from examples I had seen at other schools around Perth to create a set of bespoke illustrated letters and numbers which spelled out “HARMONY WEEK 2022”.
All the continents were represented alongside images designed to evoke feelings of peace and hope, tranquillity, and inclusion. It was an ingenious way to present a COVID friendly whole-school activity at a time when togetherness, tolerance and kindness is needed more than ever. Thanks also to our wonderful teachers and students for putting in so much effort to make it awesome! The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Hers's a great link to a lovely Sesame Street book that celebrates diversity and inclusion
Thanks and kind regards,
Michelle Horrocks

You are an important role model for your child. Your child will watch what you eat, how much you exercise, how much screen-time you use and how you look after yourself.
Children who grow up in families that enjoy a healthy lifestyle are more likely to make their own healthy choices as they get older.
