School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear parents and carers
I would like to thank all parents and carers for their amazing support by informing us of COVID positive household cases and by sending their children in Yr 3 – 6 with masks. Department of Health encourages all younger children to wear a mask, if they choose. Although wearing a mask does present challenges, on the whole the students are doing so well with it. As stated on Connect, the rules for close contacts have changed to enable asymptomatic non-household close contacts to return to school with specific rules around testing as outlined on CONNECT Wednesday 9th March.
School Board
Our School Board is a group of parents and staff who support the strategic directions of our school. They are involved with reviewing policy and analysing school data to support the general directions of the school. I would like to thank Mrs Aimee Ingram, Mrs Gemma Wright and Mrs Louise Mayvis, whose memberships finished in 2021, for their contributions to the Madeley PS Board. I would like to thank outgoing Board Chair, Mr Paul Thomas for his 6 years as a Board member, with four years as Board Chair. We will be electing a new School Board Chair for 2022.
School Board 2022 members include:
- Paul Wright
- Matthew White
- Alec Weston
- Christine Ashkenazy
- Monique Forde
- Kevin Raykos
- Tony Silvio – staff
- Katie Cawthorne – staff
- Sally Price – staff
- Kylie Reeves – staff
- Stephen Winn – Executive Dean, School of Education at ECU, and
- Lainie Beccegato – Principal
Before/after school
A friendly reminder that due to COVID guidelines, please refrain from children playing on any equipment across the school, before or after school.
Whole School Assemblies
At present, Department of Health guidelines don’t allow for parents to attend assemblies. We are also only permitted to have one year level in attendance unless there is a split class. Therefore to ensure we continue to unite as a school, have fun and encourage normality of routine, we will be streaming or pre-recording assembly services and posting them on the performing class’ Connect group for parents to watch. To enhance our community spirit, the whole school will be able to join in by viewing it at the same time.
Parking
Our students’ safety is our primary concern. Therefore, safe and legal parking around our school continues to be an ongoing concern. We kindly remind all parents to do the right thing by driving and parking safely and legally around our school. Kiss-and-Drive bays are not for parking and should be vacated as quickly as possible to maintain the flow of traffic. However, they can be parked in between 9:30am – 2:20pm. Parking in the driveway of the Pre-Primary car park and on pathways is also illegal and has resulted in safety concerns. Please be patient and wait until a car bay becomes available. Patience, kindness and respect are all virtues we need to model when driving and parking around our school. We thank you for your consideration.
School Times
We ask that students are not left at the school before 8am as adequate supervision cannot be provided. Please enrol students in Camp Australia if they arrive before 8am. Students who arrive early are required to wait outside the Principal’s office until they are released to their classes at 8:20am, even if their parents are with them. Students who arrive after the 8:35am bell must attend the office to sign in.
Student Absences
It is a legal requirement that all absences from school be adequately explained. This can be done using the ‘Absentee Form’ link on the school newsletter or via written note or email Madeley.PS@education.wa.edu.au. It is preferred that notifications are sent through these procedures, rather than directly to teachers, to reduce teachers’ workloads.
Our new SMS messaging service will send out a message at 9:30am to notify parents who have children absent, if the school has not been informed. Please call the office or reply to the SMS to provide the student name, reason and dates. Please note that it is also a requirement that extended absences through family holidays or activities be approved by the Principal. Please email requests to me at Madeley.PS@education.wa.edu.au.
Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe everyone,
Lainie Beccegato

You are an important role model for your child. Your child will watch what you eat, how much you exercise, how much screen-time you use and how you look after yourself.
Children who grow up in families that enjoy a healthy lifestyle are more likely to make their own healthy choices as they get older.

eScooter Safety
NHW LANDSDALE & SURROUNDS
Recently, we had correspondence with the Road Safety Commission due to unsafe e-scooters riders and near-miss accidents in our area. The RSC has kindly provided us with a poster to pass on to schools in our area in the hope of educating families with the current laws surrounding this form of transport. Children under 16 years old are permitted to ride low-powered eScooters which do not exceed 200w or 10km/h.
With the collaboration between local schools, our NHW Landsdale group is asking parents/ guardians to look through the poster attached and then discuss this with their families to put safety measures in place to avoid serious injuries or even worse, a fatality.
We thank those parents who have already realised the safety issues with eScooters and have provided their children with helmets, a bell, light reflectors, headlight and taught them the road/ path rules. Unfortunately, there are those that do not know the current laws, or have chosen not to abide by them, that are causing issues to vehicle drivers and pedestrians. Please note, two riding on an eScooters is against the law and a very unsafe practice. We thank you, in anticipation, that you will assist our group, the Road Safety Commission and your school, in keeping our young residents free from incidents and instilling safe practice with eScooters.
