School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected.
From the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
Welcome back to the 2022 school year.
This is our first newsletter for 2022 and I would like to welcome everyone back to Madeley Primary School for Term 1. I hope all students and their families had a wonderful Christmas and holiday period. A special welcome to all of our new students and staff. We would like to welcome our new staff Mrs Anita Vague in Pre Primary, Miss Ivana Tan in Year 2/3, Ms Jessica Zabel in Year 3, Mrs Pam Kavarnos in Year 4, Mrs Lauren Stewart in Year 4/5, Ms Nerina Jane in Year 6. Joining our team of education assistants, we welcome Ms Rochelle Hardwick and Mrs Linda Falconer.
Additionally, I would like to welcome back from leave Mrs Lauren French.
Ashdale Cluster of Schools
As you are all aware the start of the 2022 school year has been one of disruption for all schools. It also sees a number of operational changes as we face new challenges every day and we ask you to recognise these challenges and support our schools. Our main priority is to keep our students and staff as safe as possible, and as practicably as we can. The Ashdale Cluster of Schools also work very closely together to ensure this is the case. With this in mind principals from all schools have agreed to postpone interschool sporting events for the foreseeable future. However, we do look forward to returning to these as soon as we can.
COVID Update
Further to my previous COVID-19 communications, we are currently in a high caseload environment. With this comes additional measures to keep our students, staff and community safe and our school doors open.
I would like to thank and gratefully acknowledge the parents who are supporting us so much through their compliance with the current restrictions in place. We thank you for your understanding.
In the current settings the following measures are required:
- Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. If you or your child experience flu-like symptoms, please undertake COVID testing,
- If your child is identified to be a close contact or is COVID positive, please contact the front office immediately to let us know,
- Parents are permitted on school grounds for drop off and pick up in outdoor locations, with physical distancing or a mask worn,
- Parents are asked to avoid gathering by promptly leaving the school grounds,
- Parents are unable to enter classrooms and wet areas at this time,
- Due to COVID cleaning requirements, please ensure that there is no playing on the equipment before or after school for students or their siblings.
To minimise the risk of transmission during eating and play times, we are keeping two year levels of students together, as a group, and we are minimising mingling between groups.
I have provided a poster attached to explain the testing and isolation protocols in a high caseload environment.
Please note, if a student is identified by the Health Department as a close contact, parents will be provided with work for their child to undertake. Conversely, if a child has been confirmed as COVID positive, they will not be provided with school work, as they will be unwell.
School Development Days
Friday 4 March is a School Development Day. Students do not attend school on this day. The staff will be undertaking professional learning in Mathematics and the Future Leaders’ Framework.
The remaining School Development Days for the year are Monday 18th July, Friday 21st October and Friday 16th December.
Parking
The safety of our students is critical to us at MPS. Safe and legal parking is an ongoing issue at our school, therefore we remind all parents to do the right thing by driving and parking safely and legally around our school. Kiss-and-Drive bays are not for parking and should be vacated as quickly as possible so as to maintain the flow of traffic. Parking in the driveway of the Kindergarten car park or on pathways around the school is illegal and results in safety concerns as well as damaged cars. Please be patient and wait until a car bay becomes available. Patience, kindness and respect are all virtues to model when driving and parking around our school.
Student Absences
It is a legal requirement that all absences from school be adequately explained. This can be done using the ‘Absentee Form’ link on the school newsletter or via written note, email ( Madeley.ps@education.wa.edu.au ) or verbally. It is also a legal requirement that extended absences through family holidays or activities be approved by the Principal. Please email requests to me at Lainie.Beccegato@education.wa.edu.au
Uniforms
A reminder that all students must wear their school uniform at all times, including a broad-brimmed school hat at all recess and lunch times, in support of our ‘No Hat, No Play” policy. This policy is in place all year round. Please label all uniform items to ensure that are returned if they are lost.
Students with Mobile Phones
It is not recommended that primary school children be regularly bringing mobile phones to school. However, some parents provide phones so that students can contact them after school. All students who need to bring along a mobile phone MUST first have an application form completed and signed by their parents and handed to the classroom teacher. Students are not permitted to use mobile phones during school hours. Phones must be given to the classroom teacher at the beginning of the day and then collected at the end of the day. Students seen using mobile phones will have them confiscated and returned to their parent/s. Please see classroom teachers for permission forms.
As we traverse these uncertain times, I would like to again thank all parents for their support at this time. I would like to reassure you that your child’s safety is our priority at this time, and we are proactively working hard to maintain the safety of all students and staff at this time.
Keep safe,
Lainie Beccegato
Principal

You are an important role model for your child. Your child will watch what you eat, how much you exercise, how much screen-time you use and how you look after yourself.
Children who grow up in families that enjoy a healthy lifestyle are more likely to make their own healthy choices as they get older.
