School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected.
From the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by. It has been an incredibly productive year with lots of achievements to be proud of. I would like to congratulate all staff and students for a successful year and thank all parents for their contributions and support to our school community. Thank you also to our dedicated School Board and Chairperson, Mr Paul Thomas as well as the amazing work of the P & C led by President, Mr Mark Paulton. We are so fortunate to have such a supportive and engaged school community who give up their time to support and assist our school in achieving the aims set out in our Business Plan. There is very strong research evidence stating that students whose parents are involved in their schooling, do better. So I encourage you, where possible, to get involved with the school community, parent help, events and activities.
Madeley’s Got Talent
We were witness to some absolutely amazing performances by our students at Madeley’s Got Talent on Thursday. Congratulations to all performers, from those who auditioned to those who performed on the day, as they were all very impressive performers. A very big thank you to Mr Bradstreet who has dedicated countless hours to auditioning and rehearsing all performers for the show.
The winners were:
1st Place: Christian Madafferi
2nd Place: Holly Osredecki
3rd Place: Madelyn Edmonds
New Date for School Reports
Many of the teachers like to acknowledge in school reports when a student has won an award for the year. Therefore, to enable us to maintain the element of surprise for the Awards Ceremony, we will be sending out school reports next Wednesday 15th December. Please ensure that your email and contact details are up to date at the office to enable you to receive them on the day.
2021 Timetable
This year we introduced a new timetable to maximise the morning sessions when students are fresher and more alert. In the afternoons when students are tired, we only have one session. Through a recent survey of staff, the staff overwhelmingly have found the day to be more productive as a result of the new timetable. Additionally, as research indicates, break times were changed to two thirty-minute sessions rather than a forty minute and a twenty-minute break. Resultantly, this change has had a very positive impact on behaviour with less inappropriate behaviours being exhibited this year. If you would like to provide feedback about these changes, please email Madeley.PS@education.wa.edu.au.
Thank You Morning Tea
We would like to wish all of our parent helpers throughout the year for their wonderful help and support. Yesterday we had a beautiful morning tea to say thanks to all parents and carers who help us throughout the year.
Staffing Changes
I would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff who, unfortunately, will be leaving Madeley at the end of this year, many of whom have won positions at other schools. A very big thank you and best wishes to:
- Mrs Cassandra Brown,
- Miss Kim Briggs,
- Miss Kate Hutchinson,
- Mrs Karen Lewis,
- Mrs Sheree Madafferi,
- Mrs AnnMaree Miller, and
- Mrs Liz Villar.
Student Leaders
I would like to thank all of our school leaders for 2021 who were fantastic leaders, proudly representing the student population for 2021. We took the leaders to a celebratory breakfast on Monday to congratulate and thank them for a job well done. Our Student Leaders for 2022 will be announced at the Awards Ceremony next week.
Classes 2022
We will be posting the 2022 Class Lists on Connect at around 3 pm on Friday 28th January 2022. We ask that parents do not repost this information to social media or any other location, as this is private information and not for general circulation.
School Year 2022
The students’ last day of the school year is next Thursday 16th December. The first day back to school next year is Monday 31st January 2022. The school office will be open from Monday 24th January – Fri 28th January 2022 from 8 am – 4 pm for any urgent enquiries.
School Security During the Holidays
We rely on the community for support to keep our school secure and safe during the holiday period. Parents are asked to keep an eye on our school during the holiday period and report any suspicious behaviour to Education Security on 9264 4632 or Police 131 444. The Education Security phone number is on signage on the school fencing also.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our staff, students, parents and the wider community a very happy and safe Christmas and holiday season. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2022.
Kind regards,
Lainie Beccegato
Principal

Booklists 2022
Madeley’s Got Talent
Dear Santa, Love Floss
On Monday 22nd November we had Natalie Italiano read her book “Dear Santa, Love Floss” to the MLA Block. One of our students Ruby M. helped her Aunty Natalie come up with the rainbow reindeer idea.

Tucker Bush Incursion
On Thursday 25th November, our Year 1 students participated in the Tucker Bush Incursion learning about and planting Indigenous plants. We were lucky to have Marissa and Mark join us.
Marissa showed and discussed the different Indigenous plants in the Perth Noongar region. The students got to smell, feel and taste different plants and find out how the Aboriginal people used them for food, medicine and everyday life and how they looked after them to make sure that the continued to grow and survive.
Mark had the students smelling plants, teachers tasting Youlk (a native carrot/potato), digging holes and then planting the plants in our Nature Play.
The students had a blast and have already taken responsibility of the plants by continuing to water them and protecting them from being destroyed.

Gravity Discovery Centre Night Sky Incursion
On Friday 26th November, the Year 5 students and their families attended the Gin Gin Gravity Discovery Centre Night Sky Night.
They arrived just before 7pm and enjoyed a balmy evening. We had Rick, a NASA trained Astronomer and the head Astronomer of the Gravity Discovery Centre, educating us about our Solar System.
Rick gave a short presentation in the AAA showing us pictures of Uranus, Jupiter and some moons, Saturn and moons, Venus and our Solar System. The talk was very entertaining and educational, with parents walking out discussing what they had learned.
Outside the telescopes were set up and focussed on the planets Rick had told us about. Many people didn’t believe that Saturn was real when they saw it. The stripes on Jupiter were fascinating and Venus was spectacular. The sky was too light for us to see Uranus clearly but we did get to see Orion’s Nebula.
Thanks for those who attended and also for the help in finding sprinklers in the excitement (or stress) as they turned on at the far end of the oval.
The night was a great success and hopefully becomes a Year 5 annual event.

School Banking - Update from Commonwealth Bank
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit the link below:
https://www.commbank.com.au/banking/school-banking.html
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information, please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.

You are an important role model for your child. Your child will watch what you eat, how much you exercise, how much screen-time you use and how you look after yourself.
Children who grow up in families that enjoy a healthy lifestyle are more likely to make their own healthy choices as they get older.
