School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to the final term for 2021. There are lots of positive learning experiences and activities planned for this term including: tonight’s P & C disco, Madeley Cup, Remembrance Day, student leadership speeches and selection, camps and excursions, Madeley’s Got Talent, end of year reports and Year 6 graduation. We look forward to a fun and productive final term for the year.
World Teachers’ Day
Today is World Teachers’ Day.
"Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best person that they possibly can be."
Rita F. Pierson
I would like to thank and acknowledge all of our teachers and education assistants on this special day for their dedication, effort, time and unwavering commitment to enhancing the social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students at Madeley PS. We thank and applaud you all!
We provided a special morning tea to show our admiration and appreciation of our staff. I do hope you can join me in thanking them, in any small way you can, to honour this special day. Thank you.
School Board
Our School Board is a group of parents and staff, integral to the running of our school, who review policy, analyse school data and support the general directions of the school. For next year, we will have two – three vacancies which we need to fill. Each position is for a 3 year tenure. Board meetings are held once per term on the Wednesday of Week 8 at 5:30pm. The meetings generally run for 1.5 – 2 hours in length. I encourage all parents to consider nominating for this 3-year position. Please consider this opportunity and give me a call if you would like any additional information. If you would like to nominate, please complete the attached School Board Nomination Form and have another parent endorse your nomination. Nominations need to be emailed to Lainie.beccegato@education.wa.edu.au by 3.00pm on Friday 12th November 2021.
Gates
Our transition to having locked gates throughout the school day has worked really well. I would like to express my appreciation to all parents for using the front gates for all school access between 9am until the gates open ten minutes before the end of the school day. We are really proud of how we work hard to provide a safe, fun, inclusive and engaging environment for all students and staff of Madeley PS. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Parking and Safety Around the School
A reminder to all parents that parking is not permitted on grassed areas around the school. Additionally, please ensure that you travel slowly around the school zone, keeping a careful eye for any students. We are all committed to the safety of all of our students at Madeley PS.
Playgrounds
As a school we have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our students. In these times of COVID, schools have additional measures that are required to be taken to maximize the safety of all students in our care including the regular cleaning of all playground equipment and physical distancing of parents and visitors on our school site. Therefore, in order to provide the safest possible environment for all, I would like to remind all parents that students and/or siblings are not permitted to play on the playground after school. Whilst there may not currently be any COVID community transmission, we still have a Department of Education requirement to implement enhanced cleaning procedures in our classrooms and playgrounds to minimize risk to our school community. Whilst we warmly welcome parents and families into our school grounds and we love having this ‘normality’ back in place, we still ask that parents physically distance themselves from one another at all times.
Planning for 2022
We are starting the process of planning classes and classroom structures for next year. If your child will be leaving Madeley Primary by the end of 2021, please advise the school office or your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible.
Student enrolments determine what our staffing allocation will be, so we need to be accurate in our planning. During Term 4 we will begin planning classes for 2022. Considerations for how classes are formed include:
- Classes are structured based on enrolment numbers per year level and recommended class sizes. Classes are then constructed to maintain a gender balance and an even distribution of student needs/abilities in each class.
- We aim to maintain at least one friendship for each child.
- Composite classes are an inevitability; of which we have no control. Students are not disadvantaged by such arrangements. The same class selection approach is taken in these classes as all others. We do try our best to avoid repeated years in composite classes, where possible.
The process we use:
- A draft class structure is created based on student enrolment numbers.
- Staff meet to discuss and allocate students to draft classes, consideration is given to:
a. Student academic needs
b. Student behavioural needs
c. Student social needs
d. Gender balance
e. Previous placement in composite class
f. Parent requests, based on specific educational need - Admin review draft classes and meet with staff to clarify, modify, confirm classes.
- Staff meet to discuss final placements (this may involve multiple meetings)
- Classes will be displayed for parents on Connect. This is posted at around 3:30pm on Friday 28th Jan 2021 as there is a strong chance that enrolments will change when the office reopens and a restructure of classes could take place.
If there is a matter, relating to your child’s specific learning needs, that you would like the school leadership team to consider in relation to classroom placements you may submit a request in writing. Please note that we do not take requests for particular classroom teachers, nor for classroom makeup (i.e. split classes). Submissions should be emailed to Danielle.Stitfold@education.wa.edu.au before the end of Week 5 – Friday,12th November. Requests received after this time will not be considered.
I would like to assure all families that we go to great lengths to structure classes to meet the needs of every student. This is a complex process that is given a great deal of time and effort.
Open Night
I would like to thank all of the staff for their efforts and dedication in developing fun, interactive learning journeys for their students to take their families on. Thank you to all families for their attendance which makes this evening so worthwhile. Additionally, I would like to thank the P & C and canteen staff for providing the food stalls which added a wonderful atmosphere to the event. Feedback I received was incredibly positive with many parents commenting on how much they really loved attending the event and felt really engaged with the school community also.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Lainie Beccegato

KETAWA Indonesian Lunch
During Term 3, DLA4 were learning about Indonesian food produce, meals and restaurants. As part of their learning they got to enjoy a traditional Indonesian Lunch. There was Nasi Goreng, Spring Rolls, Mei Goreng, traditional fruits and traditional sweet desserts. It was a very successful incursion.

DLA4 Movie Premiere Sleepover
At the end of Term 3 DLA4 celebrated the premiere of their very own movie, called The Jewel Runners! They had; planned, written the script, acted, filmed, directed, edited and advertised. The whole process was theirs. They arrived at school, competed in a UNO tournament, ate dinner, watched their movie, received ‘Oscars’ and enjoyed a sleepover in the undercover area.

MacBook 1:1 Program (Year 3 into Year 4 2022)
The Western Australian curriculum outlines the ICT capabilities that Year 4 students are expected to demonstrate and develop. The best way to achieve this is through regular and constant access to a personal device. Hence, the Ashdale Cluster of schools continues to be committed to implementation of the 1:1 Program commencing with Year 4 students.
As your children will be commencing Year 4 in 2022, I am writing to inform you about the program. This involves the Cluster negotiating a low price for the MacBook Air 13” with an Apple provider (Winthrop Australia) on behalf of families. Parents then purchase or lease the approved MacBook from the recommended company or elsewhere if they find a better deal, however they must be the same specifications as the ones outlined on the Winthrop Portal (see the link below).
Parents are asked to purchase a new Macbook Air 13” for their child or alternatively, source a second-hand MacBook for their child to use. Any MacBook laptop model from the last 6 years will be sufficient, but we would highly recommend a laptop model no older than 3 years be sourced (in the Year 4 entry year) as once your child enters high school the older laptops might be inadequate for the completion of middle school and higher. Parents will need to be aware that second-hand laptops will not have AppleCare or any other third party warranty coverage, it will be up to the parents to source or consider insurance and damage issues.
Sent home with this letter is a brochure which further outlines the program and provides answers to frequently asked questions.
Students will begin using these devices at the beginning of the school year so you can purchase a device anytime before then. You may wish to attend an information session which will be held on Tuesday 9th November (week 5 of school this term) at 4.00pm in my class (BLA2).
If purchasing through Winthrop, the online portal is:
https://sales.winaust.com.au/shop/mps
This cluster initiative ensures our students have the best opportunities to acquire essential skills in digital technologies for their future. We recognise and value your commitment to your children’s education when taking up the offer to purchase a device.

Fundraising Update
The P&C has done some amazing fundraising work with a total of $6,698 last term raised through generous contributions from all in our school community and our wonderful local sponsors. The fundraising Year to Date figure is an incredible $9,148! We are very grateful and are looking forward to putting these funds to great use over the coming year to meet the incoming requests from the school for future projects for our kid’s fun, enjoyment, and education.
Don’t forget the school disco tonight (29th October)– tickets available at the door!
- Kindy to Pre-Primary
5:00pm - 6:00pm
- Year 1 to Year 3
6:15pm - 7:15pm

A reminder that we have a major solar array installation project underway. A commitment of $8,000 has been allocated from the P&C, with the feasibility study progressing well, and looking to see works starting on the ground soon.

Canteen
Please remember to support our school canteen wherever possible. Each sale helps reduce the overall running cost, so the more we sell, the more we can save and use funds on other important projects in the school.
To that end, we have agreed to look to transition away the online canteen payment method from Quickcliq to QKR! commencing in Term 1, 2022. This will save Madeley parents on average $3,100 in fees and credit card charges. We hope you will see the benefits and better value in ordering from the canteen.
Please ensure you have used up all your Quickcliq credit before the end of the year.
Many of you would have felt the strong sense of community at the schools Open Night last term. We would like to extend our big thanks and congratulations to the Canteen team, spurred on by our wonderful Canteen Co-ordinator, Carli Williams! Thank you for making Open Night a delicious occasion and well as a celebration of our beautiful students’ hard work.
Come Along and Join In
Our last P&C Meeting for the year is on Wednesday 1st December at 7.30pm in the staffroom. Please come along. We really would like to see some new faces as parents will start to transition through the school on to new pastures in 2022.
As such, it’s approaching the time of year where we urgently need nominations for P&C Office Bearer roles. We would love to see some new interest from the lower school classes (K-Y2) to help with the transition arrangements, as parents move on from these roles. Please reach out to madeleypandc@gmail.com for more information. Nomination forms can be via email and downloaded from our Madeley P&C Facebook Page.
Current roles we will be needing to fill nominations for are:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Canteen Treasurer
Fundraising Coordinator
Canteen Coordinator
Communications Officer
Our volunteers are an important function of our school and assist greatly in delivering school experiences and fundraising efforts for future educational and school environmental projects. We would love to have some fresh ideas at the P&C table.
The P&C has a great team working in place so you won’t be alone, and there is a lot of experience in the group so any newcomers will feel very welcome. It’s a great way for new parents to meet their neighbours, make new friendships, share some laughs, and find some real belonging in our Madeley suburb. It’s a very rewarding opportunity for those wishing to give back to the school.

Keep an eye out on the P&C Facebook Page and Quickcliq for upcoming weekly/monthly Meal Deals online.
We welcome your feedback, suggestions and ideas.
