School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Kindy 2022 Enrolments
Kindy 2022 enrolments close on Friday 23 July, which is the end of week 1 next term. If you know of anyone whose child is born between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2018, please let them know that enrolments close soon. As Kindergarten is a non-compulsory year at school, we make plans for how classes are structured based on the number of students enrolled as of the closing date. Sometimes there may still be places available for latecomers however, we don’t always have the space to accommodate them. Therefore, lodging enrolments before the closing date is of paramount importance.
Attendance
At Madeley we are constantly striving to increase the attendance of all our students.
Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behaviour and have a better chance of graduating from high school.
When students attend regularly, their grades and reading skills will improve—even for those students who find school challenging. Students who attend school regularly also feel more connected to their community, develop important social skills and friendships, and are significantly more likely to graduate from high school, setting them up for a strong future.
Students who miss an average of just two days of school per month, even when the absences are explained, can be negatively impacted. These absences can have an effect as early as Kindergarten. For example, young primary school students who miss an average of just two school days per month often have difficulty keeping up with their peers academically and tend to fall behind in reading and numeracy. As a parent, you can prepare your child for a lifetime of success by making regular school attendance a priority.
If your children are missing school due to illness, please provide the school with notification by way of our website’s Absentee Form, written notification to the teacher or by calling the front office. Please note that not all notifications provided by parents or carers for a student’s absence would be considered acceptable by the Principal. For example, a day off to celebrate a birthday or a message simply stating that a student will be away do not meet the requirements of an ‘authorised absence’. In these cases, the absence would be considered as unauthorised.
Being at school on time
Arriving before the school siren in the morning allows students to get themselves organised for the day and also provides opportunity for them to speak to the teacher in an informal way, strengthening the very important teacher student relationship. Arriving after the siren places stress and anxiety on the student as they are often embarrassed about coming into the room in front of everyone. Late arrivals also interrupt and disrupt instruction time for the teacher.
Please ensure your child is at school and at their class before class starts at 8.35am. Classroom doors open at 8.20am allowing students time to prepare themselves for the day.
NAIDOC Week
As part of our NAIDOC celebrations next week, all classes will attend a performance by the theatre company Yirra Yaakkin. The performance, titled ‘Bilya Kaatijin’ teaches students about the importance of water to First Nations people around the world. The theme for NAIDOC Week this year is ‘Heal Country!’. Activities will be completed in classrooms throughout the week around this topic.
Harmony Week
During the final week of this term, Madeley will hold activities to celebrate Harmony Week. Throughout this week, students will engage in activities celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity. Activities will focus upon inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all.
Swimming Lessons
Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in swimming lessons over the next two weeks.
School Reports
This semester’s reports will be emailed out on Tuesday 29 June. Please ensure that your email contact details are up to date.
School Security During the Holidays
We rely on the community for support to keep our school secure and safe during the holiday period. Parents are asked to keep an eye on our school during the holiday period and report any suspicious behaviour to Education Security on 9264 4632 or Police 131 444. The Education Security phone number is also on signage around the outside of the school fencing.
I hope all families enjoy a wonderful school holiday break.
Kind regards,
Lainie Beccegato
Principal

Interm Swimming Years 3 & 5
Due to NAPLAN we have had to split our swimming times over 4 weeks instead of 2 this year.
Swimming lesson times are as follows:
21st June – 2nd July for Year 3 & Year 5
Lessons are at Wanneroo Aquamotion and our students will be travelling by bus (with seatbelts) to and from the swimming venue. The cost per student for 10 lessons will be $56. This is comprised of $35.00 pool entry ($3.50 per day, per student) and a cost of $21 for bus travel for the 10 days per student. The actual swimming lessons are FREE. Swimming is part of the curriculum so students are expected to participate and will require a medical certificate if they can’t attend the lessons.
Please complete the Interm Swimming Enrolment Form and return to the class teacher. If you are having difficulty paying by this date, please contact Ms Lingard, Manager Corporate Services at the school on 9306 6900.
We encourage payments via the QKr! app – this is a very simple and quick process and alleviates the need for busy parents to come into the office or send money in with students. Instructions on how to download the app are available in Connect library or alternatively google QKr! and download app.
Year 6 Fundraiser – Free Dress Day
We are having a free dress day which will be held on Friday, 2nd July, which is the last day of this term. So come to school in your free dress clothes but please remember to pay a gold coin donation! The donation can either be paid to the classroom teacher on the day or paid via the Qkr! app. The money raised will go towards the Year 6 Graduation.
We encourage payments via the Qkr! app – this is a very simple and quick process and it alleviates the need for busy parents to come into the office or send money in with students.

Scitech Space Dome Incursion
Throughout Term 2, Pre-Primary and Purple Kindy travelled out of this world and have been learning about space and our place in the Solar System. On Wednesday 16th June, all students attended the Scitech Space Dome incursion, Day and Night. The children explored what made day and night, and the changes in the sky from day to night. We looked at the Earth’s orbit around the sun and the rotation on itself. We then looked at stars in the night sky and learnt how people have used constellations for navigation and storytelling. We then moved onto a workshop where our challenge was to use our STEM skills to build a shelter that would withstand the strong winds on Mars. Our shelters were tested with light winds (hairdryer) and strong winds (leaf blower). The only astronaut to survive, was the one that was anchored down with a bulldog clip- good idea kids!

REmida Incursion
During Term 2 the students from DLA3, 4 and 5 learnt all about materials and design during their STEM unit. They worked enthusiastically to design their own sustainable bag or satchel. The team from REmida came to our school with plenty of recycled materials and joining tools, to run a workshop for DLA3, 4 and 5, in Week 7. The end result was impressive with backpacks, handbags, carry bags and many more interesting designs. They carefully used the joining tools and selected appropriate materials to stay as close to their designs as possible.

You are an important role model for your child. Your child will watch what you eat, how much you exercise, how much screen-time you use and how you look after yourself.
