School Vision

From the Principal

Dear parents and carers

Term 2 is always such a busy term and this year is no exception. I would like to thank all of the parents and carers for their compliance with the ever changing COVID restrictions in place. We really appreciate your support in assisting us to keep our school community safe. As you will be aware, according to Health Department requirements, no mask will be required when coming on the school site as of Monday, 10th May 2021.

New School Officer

We have a new School Officer appointed to our front office, named Shannon Why. She is an experienced School Officer from Westminster PS. We are excited for her to join our school community. I hope you can join us in making her feel very welcome.

National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

NAPLAN testing begins for Year 3 and Year 5 next week. The NAPLAN testing is online except for the Year 3 Writing Assessment.

We simply encourage all students to try their best. We don’t want any student to feel stressed or under pressure. To enable students to try their best we encourage parents to ensure that students are in bed early and have a substantial breakfast to enable them to do their best.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons begin on Monday at Aquamotion Wanneroo. Please ensure that students have their towel and all of their belongings labelled with their name and bring a change of underwear. We know the students will have a wonderful time.

Poppits

We are currently experiencing a number of issues with many students bringing Poppits to school. Please only send fidget toys, such as Poppits, to school if this is required as part of your child’s documented learning plan as agreed to with the class teacher.

Australian Early Developmental Census

This national census is conducted in PrePrimary every 3 years to measure five important areas of early childhood development; physical health and wellbeing, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive skills (school-based), communication skills and general knowledge. This information provides us with information about the strengths, areas of concern and degree of vulnerability of students living in this postcode. We use this information as a school and cluster to better cater for our students. Our teachers will start to undertake this census starting from Week 6 until the end of term. We hope to have the results by the end of the year. Please see the link below for more information.

Voluntary Contributions and Charges 2021

A very big thank you to all parents who have paid their contributions and charges. This funding supports the purchase of school resources for all learning areas as well as the library. We had a prize draw for families who paid their contributions before the end of last term. Congratulations to the McDonald family who won the $200 Woolworths gift card.

Interm Swimming PP – Year 6

Due to NAPLAN we have had to split our swimming times over 4 weeks instead of 2 this year.

Swimming lesson times are as follows:

10th May – 21st May for PP, Yrs 1, 2 ,4 & 6
21st June – 2nd July for Yr 3 & Yr 5

Lessons are at Wanneroo Aquamotion and our students will be travelling by bus (with seatbelts) to and from the swimming venue. The cost per student for 10 lessons will be $56. This is comprised of $35.00 pool entry ($3.50 per day, per student) and a cost of $21 for bus travel for the 10 days per student. The actual swimming lessons are FREE. Swimming is part of the curriculum so students are expected to participate and will require a medical certificate if they can’t attend the lessons.

Please complete the Interm Swimming Enrolment Form and return to the class teacher. If you are having difficulty paying by this date, please contact Ms Lingard, Manager Corporate Services at the school on 9306 6900.

We encourage payments via the QKr! app – this is a very simple and quick process and alleviates the need for busy parents to come into the office or send money in with students. Instructions on how to download the app are available in Connect library or alternatively google QKr and download app.

Kindergarten 2022

In Western Australia, children can start their education in Kindergarten. Parents/carers/guardians are required to complete an Expression of Interest to enrol their children in Kindergarten 2022. Your child is eligible for Kindergarten 2022 if their date of birth is between 1st July 2017 and 30th June 2018.

Expressions of Interest for Kindergarten are required to be lodged prior to Friday 23rd July, 2021.

Once completed, please return your Expression of Interest and associated documents to the Administration Office between 10am and 2pm on Monday to Friday.

P&C News

P & C Newsletter contribution May 2021

The P & C has been busy planning events and fundraising opportunities for our school community that are fun, exciting, and COVID-19 safe. We will be making announcements soon so make sure to subscribe to the Madeley P & C Facebook page.

Our Easter hamper raffle was a great success with the P & C raising $355. We are very grateful to Margaret Quirk MLA for generously donating the hamper. Thank you to all the parents and students who purchased tickets and congratulations to the Bowler family who were the lucky winners.

If you are planning to purchase an Entertainment Membership this year, please consider doing so through the P & C. The P & C receives 20 per cent of every Membership sale so it’s a great way to support our school community while enjoying a range of offers on dining, shopping, hotels and activities. Canteen News

We have some yummy treats on offer in the canteen this term.

With the success of the ANZAC Day Treats, we have decided to continue selling Lamington Fingers and ANZAC Biscuits at lunch and recess for 50 cents each. These can be purchased over the counter at the canteen or pre-ordered online.

We are now making our own vegetarian, gluten free Nachos. Corn chips topped with salsa and cheese with a side of sour cream. Selling for $5.00 each.

Dino Nuggets have been removed from the menu.

We are working on our Winter Menu for next semester and we are welcoming suggestions for healthy choice items.
