School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear parents and carers
I can’t believe we are at the end of week 6 already. The students have settled well and have been working industriously in their new classes.
School Board: Our School Board is a group of parents and staff, integral to the running of our school, who review policy and analyse school data to support the general directions of the school. This year, we have one vacancy on the Board which we need to fill. Board meetings are held once per term on the Wednesday of Week 8 at 5:30pm. I encourage all parents to consider nominating for this 3-year position. Please consider this opportunity and give me a call if you would like any additional information. If you would like to nominate, please complete the attached School Board Nomination Form and have another parent endorse your nomination. Nominations need to be emailed to Lainie.beccegato@education.wa.edu.au by 3.00pm next Friday 19 March.
Current School Board members include:
- Paul Thomas – Chairperson
- Paul Wright
- Alec Weston
- Matthew White
- Gemma Wright
- Tony Silvio – staff
- Katie Cawthorne – staff
- Louise Mayvis – staff
- Kylie Reeves – staff
- Stephen Winn – Executive Dean, School of Education at ECU, and
- Lainie Beccegato – Principal
Voluntary Contributions and Charges 2021: We warmly encourage parents and carers to pay the contributions and charges for this year. We use these funds to purchase valuable resources for our Literacy, Numeracy, Mental Health, Humanities, STEM, Science, Art, Music, Health and Physical Education programs to name just a few. The voluntary contributions and charges include a resource charge $60 per child along with a P & C voluntary contribution of $20/ child or $40/ family and a $20 - $30 fee to cover the costs of the online programs used at school.
We have an incentive prize for all families who pay their contributions by the end of this term by going in a draw to win a $200 Woolworths gift card. I would like to acknowledge and thank all families who have already paid their fees for this year.
Before/after school: A friendly reminder that due to COVID cleaning rules, there is no playing on any equipment across the school, before or after school.
Whole School Assemblies: This year, classes are really excited to be returning to whole school assemblies, including classroom performance items. We ask that families only send two representatives to ensure that we can manage the whole school along with the parent numbers.
Parking: Our students’ safety is our primary concern. Therefore, safe and legal parking around our school continues to be an ongoing concern. We kindly remind all parents to do the right thing by driving and parking safely and legally around our school. Kiss-and-Drive bays are not for parking and should be vacated as quickly as possible to maintain the flow of traffic. However, they can be parked in between 9:30am – 2:20pm. Parking in the driveway of the Kindergarten car park and on pathways is also illegal and has resulted in safety concerns. Please be patient and wait until a car bay becomes available. Patience, kindness and respect are all virtues we need to model when driving and parking around our school. We thank you for your consideration.
School Times: We ask that students are not left at the school before 8am as adequate supervision cannot be provided. Students who arrive early are required to wait outside the Principal’s office until they are released to their classes at 8:20am, even if their parents are with them. When students arrive after the 8:35am bell they must attend the office to get a late slip.
Easter On The Green: As recommended by The Department of Education’s COVID Team, our P & C Easter on The Green has unfortunately been cancelled again this year. The P & C are excited to plan a range of alternative fundraising opportunities to support the school with funding.
Student Absences: It is a legal requirement that all absences from school be adequately explained. This can be done using the ‘Absentee Form’ link on the school newsletter or via written note, email (Madeley.ps@education.wa.edu.au) or verbally. It is also a legal requirement that extended absences through family holidays or activities be approved by the Principal. Please email requests to me Lainie.Beccegato@education.wa.edu.au
Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
Lainie Beccegato

Chaplain’s Chat
Building a good relationship and understanding your children better can be beneficial for everyone.
Here are some ideas that might help:
- Express and demonstrate unconditional love and acceptance to help them feel important.
- Be aware of your child’s level of development. For example, trying to reason with a three year old may be unrealistic.
- Develop healthy and consistent boundaries. Consider when you’re making rules how you will enforce them.
- Play is essential for a child’s development. Your children will love it if you can spend a little one-on-one time with them each day.
- Show an interest in their activities and praise them for good behaviour. A good rule of thumb is: six praises for every reprimand.
- Rethink talking about adult topics in front of your kids. Discussing topics like court battles, finances and divorce may be troubling for them.
- When your child is being challenging, try to listen to their feelings and offer them strategies to deal with their problems.
- Remember, when you least feel like giving your child a hug is when they probably need it most.
- Repeat back to your child what you believe they are feeling. Let them know, “I hear you”. This helps them know you’re listening, gives their feelings value and helps them understand and control emotions.
- Trauma, such as a death, violence or bullying, can have long-term impacts on a child and changes in their behaviour can be a sign of stress. Seek help from your GP, school counsellor, a child psychologist or a play therapist if you’re concerned or the behaviour continues.

You are an important role model for your child. Your child will watch what you eat, how much you exercise, how much screen-time you use and how you look after yourself.
Children who grow up in families that enjoy a healthy lifestyle are more likely to make their own healthy choices as they get older.
