School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to the 2021 school year.
This is our first newsletter for 2021 and I would like to welcome everyone back to Madeley Primary School for Term 1. I hope all students and their families had a wonderful Christmas and holiday period. A special welcome to all of our new students and staff. We would like to welcome back Mrs Elise Smith who is working in tandem with Mrs Louise Mayvis (Year 3), Mrs Cassandra Brown (Kindy) and Mrs Nicole Hall in tandem with Mr Silvio (Yr 5) and in Pre Primary.
Our school newsletter is a very important communication tool. Our school survey conducted last year indicated that our newsletter is valued as one of the most effective ways of sharing information with our school community. Therefore, I hope you can find the time to read it when it arrives in your inbox to ensure you’re aware of all of the important events and information relevant to your child/ren. Other important communication tools include our school CONNECT Community and Facebook page.

School Development Day:
Friday 26 Feb is a School Development Day. Students do not attend school on this day. The staff will be undertaking professional learning in instructional skills and reading comprehension.
Parents and Citizens (P&C):
Our P&C meets twice per term and is actively engaged in supporting our school through running the school canteen and its fundraising activities throughout the year. This year, we have a newly appointed P & C President, Mr Mark Paulton. We welcome Mark into this role for 2021. I would like to thank Mr Peter Withnell our outgoing president for his commitment, leadership and all of the belly laughs he has provided us over his 5 year tenure. We welcome all parents to contribute to our P&C, it is a great way to get to know other parents and get involved. Unfortunately, this year due to current COVID restrictions, Easter On the Green will not take place. However, the P & C hope to run a range of alternative COVID safe methods to raise funds this year. Their next meeting is on Wednesday 24 March at 7:30pm in the Staffroom. We would love to see you there!
Play equipment:
As a school, we are required to clean the playground equipment daily to provide a safe environment for our students. It is critical that there is no playing on the equipment before or after school for students or their siblings.
Parking:
The safety of our students is critical to us at MPS. Safe and legal parking is an ongoing issue at our school, therefore we remind all parents to do the right thing by driving and parking safely and legally around our school. Kiss-and-Drive bays are not for parking and should be vacated as quickly as possible so as to maintain the flow of traffic. Parking in the driveway of the Kindergarten car park or on pathways around the school are illegal and result in safety concerns as well as damaged cars. Please be patient and wait until a car bay becomes available. Patience, kindness and respect are all virtues to model when driving and parking around our school.
Student Absences:
It is a legal requirement that all absences from school be adequately explained. This can be done using the ‘Absentee Form’ link on the school newsletter or via written note, email (Madeley.ps@education.wa.edu.au) or verbally. It is also a legal requirement that extended absences through family holidays or activities be approved by the Principal. Please email requests to me at Lainie.Beccegato@education.wa.edu.au
School Visits:
If you need to enter the school outside the normal drop off and pick up times we require that you come through the office first to let us know. We need to know who is in the school in case of emergencies and for the general safety of our students, staff and property.
Uniforms:
A reminder that all students must wear their broad-brimmed school hat during outdoor play in support of our ‘No Hat, No Play” policy. This policy is in place all year round. Please label all uniform items to ensure that are returned if they are lost.
Mobile Phones:
It is not recommended that primary school children be regularly bringing mobile phones to school. However, some parents provide phones so that students can contact them after school. All students who need to bring along a mobile phone MUST first have an application form completed and signed by their parents and handed to the classroom teacher. Students are not permitted to use mobile phones during school hours. Phones must be given to the classroom teacher at the beginning of the day and then collected at the end of the day. Students seen using mobile phones will have them confiscated and returned to their parent/s.
Parent Information Meetings:
Parent Information sessions will be held next week as outlined in previous Connect notices. Classroom and Specialist teachers will provide detailed information about their information sessions through Connect. Please note that only 1 parent per session will be allowed, due to COVID restrictions. Please do not enter the school grounds if you are experiencing any flu – like symptoms. We ask that parents make alternative arrangements for their children, as they will not be permitted to play on the playground equipment. If this is not possible, please sit the child/ren quietly with you to supervise them whilst at the meeting.
Parents are reminded that they can make an appointment to meet with their child’s teacher any time during the year. The best way to do this is by making an appointment with the teacher directly or via email. All staff have a Department of Education email account – firstname.surname@education.wa.edu.au.
Following current health advice, please remember that if you or your children are ever sick or experience flu-like symptoms, please stay home. Although in this COVID climate, things may be a little different, we are really looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing together.
Have a great weekend.

P & C News
The P & C is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Paulton as our new president. Mark was unanimously elected president at Wednesday night’s AGM. He has two children at Madeley Primary and is a former School Board member. Mark takes over from Peter Withnell who resigned as president after five years in the position. Peter will continue to be involved with the P & C and we thank him for his dedication and commitment during his presidency.
The P & C has also welcomed Alana Foley as our new Fundraising Coordinator. Alana will be exploring safe and healthy ways to raise funds as we continue to navigate challenges posed by COVID-19. If you have any ideas or feedback about fundraising or other P & C activities, we would love to hear from you. Our email address is madeleypandc@gmail.com.
If you are looking for a simple way to support your school community, you may wish to recycle your drink containers at a Containers for Change depot and donate the proceeds to the P & C. Donations can be made by quoting ID # C10340367. We have received generous donations through the scheme, including more than $50 from the Carrington Smith Family. Thank you for your generosity, we truly appreciate your support.
Our next meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24 March 2021. We’ll be discussing ways we can support our school and students in 2021. School Chaplain
Chaplain’s Chat
Welcome to 2021!
I hope you all had a lovely holiday, and you are all feeling refreshed and ready for another great year, even with the bumpy start.
For those of you who are new to the school, my name is Stephanie Hund and I am the school chaplain. My role is to focus on the wellbeing of students, parents and teachers in our school community.
A school chaplain is present in the school to:
- Provide pastoral care for staff, students and families.
- Link schools with the local community, support agencies and organisations
- Play an active role assisting and supporting school events.
- Support, mentor, encourage and empower the school community.
Here’s a little tip. Kids love having something special in their lunch boxes so why not send them a little note. It can be as simple as an ‘I love you’, or ‘Have a great day’.
