School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Newsletter Friday 11 Dec 2020
Dear parents and carers,
This is our last newsletter for the year. What an unusual, yet very productive year this has been. I would like to congratulate all staff and students for a successful year and all parents for their contributions and support to our school community. Thank you also to our dedicated School Board and Chairperson, Mr Paul Thomas as well as the amazing work of the P & C led by President, Mr Peter Withnell. We are so fortunate to have such a supportive and engaged school community who give up their time to support and assist our school in achieving our school vision. There is very strong research evidence stating that students whose parents are involved in their schooling, do better. So I encourage you, where possible, to get involved with the school community, parent help, events and activities.
Public School Review
We had our Public School Review on Tuesday 8th December whereby a Director from the Public School Accountability Team along with the Principal of Baldivis PS, Tom Burke, came to the school to validate our school self-assessment. We articulated where we are at, provided evidence to demonstrate our achievements and progress and outlined our future directions to improve outcomes for students. The reviewers met with groups of students, staff, parents, cluster principals, cluster staff and a representative from ECU to confirm our achievements as a school. We report to the Review Team on 6 key areas; Student Achievement and Progress, Teaching Quality, Learning Environment, Leadership, Relationships and Partnerships and Use of Resources. By the beginning of next year, we will receive a report by the reviewers that we will share with the school community and publish on our website.
The reviewers stated that they were very impressed with our school directions and we are really looking forward to receiving our report. I would like to thank all students, staff, P & C and School Board members involved in our School Review. It was a fabulous day showing off what we do at Madeley. I am very proud to be the principal of Madeley PS and of the progress we have made as a school.
New School Times for 2021
A reminder that we will start our school day at 8:35am next year and finish the school day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 2:50pm. The finish time on Wednesdays remains at 2:30pm. The longer morning sessions will mean the students will require ‘Crunch n Sip’ time during the morning, so please send some fruit for the children to snack on. Where necessary, teachers will ensure students have a few minutes in the morning session to have a brain break, stretch/exercise or whatever is required to refocus the students.
Doors to classrooms will open at 8:20am for 2021 and children are encouraged not to arrive at school until this time. If however, students are at school between 8am – 8:20am, they are to sit outside of my office until they are dismissed to class at 8:20am. Camp Australia is a service available for students arriving before 8am.

MacBook 1:1 Program (Year 3 2020 into Year 4 2021)
The Western Australian curriculum outlines the ICT capabilities that Year 4 students are expected to demonstrate and develop. The best way to achieve this is through regular and constant access to a personal device. Hence, the Ashdale Cluster of schools continues to be committed to implementation of the 1:1 Program commencing with Year 4 students.
This involves the Cluster negotiating a low price for the MacBook Air 13” with an Apple provider (Winthrop Australia) on behalf of families. Parents then purchase or lease the approved MacBook from the recommended company or elsewhere if they find a better deal, however they must be the same specifications as the ones outlined on the Winthrop Portal (see the link below).
Parents are asked to purchase a new Macbook Air 13” for their child or alternatively, source a second-hand MacBook for their child to use. Any MacBook laptop model from the last 6 years will be sufficient, but we would highly recommend a laptop model no older than 3 years be sourced (in the Year 4 entry year) as once your child enters high school the older laptops might be inadequate for the completion of middle school and higher. Parents will need to be aware that second-hand laptops will not have AppleCare or any other third party warranty coverage, it will be up to the parents to source or consider insurance and damage issues.
Students will begin using these devices at the beginning of the school year 2021, so you can purchase a device any time before then.
If purchasing through Winthrop, the online portal is:
