School Vision

Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected.

From the Principal

Dear parents and caregivers,

I can’t believe it is already half way through the term. Christmas will be here in no time. The students are working hard through their final term of the year whilst the staff are busily p completing assessments and preparing reports. Reports will be emailed home on Tuesday 15 December 2020. Email accounts must be up to date to enable you to receive your child’s report. Please contact the school office to update this information. Please download your child’s reports to your home computer as the link will only be active for around 2 weeks. Our school is currently very busy preparing for our Public School Review which will be held on Tuesday 8th December whereby a review team come into our school to review our school. We prepare and present documents demonstrating our self-reflections demonstrating how we are going as a school, how we know and what we are going to do to continually improve. A report will be prepared afterwards that we will share with the school community afterwards. I am so pleased that some of our School Board and P & C members are able to join us for the review to outline our effectiveness in building relationships and partnerships with the community.

I would like to also make special mention of the staff for their time taken away from their own families to provide this amazing experience for our students. Thank you also to the helpers that made themselves available to assist on the camps.

Student Leaders 2021 speeches

Next week the students who are seeking leadership roles in the school will be presenting their speeches and voting will then take place. We wish all the prospective leaders the best of luck for the experience. The winners of the leadership roles will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Wed 16th Dec. Parents of the winners will be notified by phone prior to the announcement.

We publish these at this time each year to enable our families time to budget for school activities for the following year. Science News

Year 1 News

While studying the properties of materials during Science, the year 1’s, confirmed that the properties of raw spaghetti make it a better material than cooked spaghetti, for building towers!

Year 4 & 5 News

Earlier in the term, the year 4’s and year 5’s had a surprise visit from some Scientists who work at ChemCentre.

During the visit they

  • learnt what ChemCentre does to help ensure the public’s safety
  • heard some funny stories about some of the mystery powders that have been tested
  • got to see Mrs Jones get dressed in the PPE
  • got to wear some of the equipment themselves while collecting a sample of a mystery substance and getting it ready for testing.

Thanks to the Scientists from ChemCentre who gave up their time to visit.

Waste Wise

The Waste Wise Schools program provides support to schools across Western Australia (WA) to promote responsible waste management behaviours, with a focus on waste avoidance and recovery. It also develops positive environmental values in students and the whole school community.

Last Friday 6/11/2020 Mr Eddison’s Year 4 class were invited to attend a Waste Wise Schools incursion. The students got out the rubber gloves and tongs and were involved in sorting the waste from 2 bins from around the school. We were all so shocked at the amount of waste from just 2 of the many bins at the school. The biggest shock of all was the amount of unopened packages, whole fruit and the amount of uneaten sandwiches. Mr Eddison’s class and Madeley Staff encourage all parents to check in with their kids to ensure they are eating their food that is given to them.

A very special thanks to Mrs Sally Price for organising this great incursion though could unfortunately not attend.

ADD TITLE Heading 1 - Article 2

Occupational Therapy at Edith Cowan University (OT@ECU) is pleased to announce that (for the sixth consecutive year) we will run groups for children in early primary school who are experiencing difficulties in school participation.

The first group sessions will commence early in Term 1, and screening and assessment will take place in late January. As such, parents will need to e-mail their expression of interest as soon as possible in order for their child to be considered for these groups. Children who applied last year and could not attend due to COVID-19 are welcome to apply again.

If you would like further information about the program, please e-mail jccs@ecu.edu.au

MacBook 1:1 Program (Year 3 2020 into Year 4 2021)

The Western Australian curriculum outlines the ICT capabilities that Year 4 students are expected to demonstrate and develop. The best way to achieve this is through regular and constant access to a personal device. Hence, the Ashdale Cluster of schools continues to be committed to implementation of the 1:1 Program commencing with Year 4 students.

This involves the Cluster negotiating a low price for the MacBook Air 13” with an Apple provider (Winthrop Australia) on behalf of families. Parents then purchase or lease the approved MacBook from the recommended company or elsewhere if they find a better deal, however they must be the same specifications as the ones outlined on the Winthrop Portal (see the link below).

Parents are asked to purchase a new Macbook Air 13” for their child or alternatively, source a second-hand MacBook for their child to use. Any MacBook laptop model from the last 6 years will be sufficient, but we would highly recommend a laptop model no older than 3 years be sourced (in the Year 4 entry year) as once your child enters high school the older laptops might be inadequate for the completion of middle school and higher. Parents will need to be aware that second-hand laptops will not have AppleCare or any other third party warranty coverage, it will be up to the parents to source or consider insurance and damage issues.

Students will begin using these devices at the beginning of the school year 2021, so you can purchase a device any time before then.

If purchasing through Winthrop, the online portal is:

Gifted & Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Programs

You can apply online at the link below:

https://www.education.wa.edu.au/gifted-and-talented

Information about the programs, where they are offered and upcoming parent information sessions are also on the website. For more information, you can contact the Gifted and Talented Selection Unit on 9264 4307 or at gtsu@education.wa.edu.au.

School Banking

Every Wednesday in the Library 8.30am – 8.45am

Get involved in the School Banking program

Madeley Primary is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. We do request that parents/students still observe the social distancing requirements whilst attending the school library.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

The rewards available during 2020 are:

  • Terry Denton’s Activity Book
  • Mini Soccer Ball (size 2)
  • Treetop Stationary Set
  • Treetop Handball
  • Tomato Seed Kit
  • Magic Mist Drink Bottle
  • Emoji Wallet
  • Snakes & Ladders Game

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.

Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

1. Online

Visit at the link below and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.

https://www.commbank.com.au/banking/school-banking.html

2. In branch

Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

School Banking day is Wednesday 8.30am – 8.45am. Each week you need to see Trish and Robyn in the Library.

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2020 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit at the link below.

Welcome back to Term 4!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday and that you have all come back ready for an exciting and busy term!

I would like to take this moment to remind you that your children love jokes or funny stories. Not only does this help build your relationship with them but it also helps ease the tension and stresses of everyday life.

So this term I challenge you to tell your children “dad jokes” on the weekends and encourage them to share it with their friends, also to leave funny notes in the lunch boxes so that they have a laugh in the middle of their day.

All children are welcome and background in Macedonian is not essential.  For these students the program gives an opportunity to experience other cultures and develop a broader view of the world as well as make new social connections.
