School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
I can’t believe it is the end of week 5 already. The students have been working really hard this term. With Book Week next week and Science Day, Faction carnival and Jumps and Throws coming up, the term is set to fly by.
School Board
We have an effective and engaged School Board made up of our School Board Chair, Paul Thomas, and parents including Paul Wright, Aimee Ingram, Alex Weston, Gemma Wright and Matthew White. Our staff members include Katie Cawthorne (Education Assistant), Tony Silvio (teacher), Louise Mayvis (teacher), Kylie Reeves (Deputy Principal) along with a co-opted member, Stephen Winn, who is the Executive Dean of the School of Education at ECU. Together we analyse school data and evidence about how we are tracking as a school in relation to our Business Plan targets and priorities. The Board provide valuable input and feedback into our data analysis and plans for improvement. School Boards also have some specific roles that include endorsement of our contributions and charges for the following school year, approval of the school dress code and promotion of the school within the community. As a School Board we have been actively engaged in learning about the research that underpins school board effectiveness, hearing about processes used with other high achieving school boards and undertaking training in learning modules.
Cluster Strategic Plan
All staff across the Ashdale Cluster meet every term to focus on improving outcomes in reading as part of the priority for the Cluster Strategic Plan. Additionally, the Deputy Principals and Principals across the cluster meet twice per term to drive the cluster improvement plans. Our Cluster Board meets once per term also. This Board is made up of the Board Chair and Principal of each of the cluster schools.
Road Safety
In discussions with our P & C committee, I have been made aware that there have been some significant road safety issues around the school. I ask that parents please take extra caution when travelling around our school at all times. Please drive slowly and beware of students who may not be paying attention.
Additionally, I kindly ask parents to speak with their children to remind them about ensuring the children have helmets, riding their bikes on the correct side of the road and not looking at mobile phones or other distractors when walking near or on roads. We have also reminded the students about these issues at our recent mini assembly.
School Photos
School Photos are booked in for Week 3 of Term 4 Monday 26th October and Tuesday 27th October. Further information will follow early next term.
Staff Carpark
A reminder to all parents that the staff carpark is not a Kiss and Ride nor for use for parents to park in. The Kiss and Ride is right outside of the staff carpark on Martindale Ave and it is this location that parents are permitted to drop off students, if dropping at the front of the school. The staff carpark is only permitted for access by staff and other visitors to the school who are not family members of students.
Bushfire Plan
Due to the Bushfire Season beginning in September, schools are required to have a Bushfire Plan. Please find the attached map of the evacuation route of students and the evacuation meeting point where staff and students will meet at, in the unlikely event of a bushfire emergency. We will have fire drills in the future to rehearse and refine our processes.
Open Night
Madeley PS staff would like to invite all parents to our annual Open Night. This is such a positive experience for teachers, parents and students. The event will take place on Wednesday 23rd September in each child’s classroom and specialist areas at pre-booked timeslots.
As we remain in Phase 4 of the state Government’s roadmap, we ask that all adults continue to remain physically distanced at 2sqm. Hence, parents will be limited to 7 families in each classroom at any one time and the AAA will be able to accommodate more families. Therefore, due to these restrictions, we have divided the evening into six 20min timeslots for regular classrooms that parents can sign up to beforehand. Specialists will have 5 min timeslots to be signed up to.
A note to parents with further information will go out to parents next week on Connect.
Rumble’s Quest
This term, students in Years 1 to 6 will be invited to participate in Rumble's Quest. This is an online game that has been designed to measure student wellbeing.
When children participate in Rumble’s Quest they complete fun challenges and answer questions about the way they experience the world.
The questions are grouped into four areas: |
The challenges call on the following skills: |

For more information about Rumble’s Quest you may like to view the following video at the link below.

If for any reason you do not wish your child to participate, please send an email to Jarred.Moon@education.wa.edu.au to let us know.

School Banking
School Banking is back!
Every Wednesday in the Library 8.30am – 8.45am
Get involved in the School Banking program
Madeley Primary is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. We do request that parents/students still observe the social distancing requirements whilst attending the school library.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2020 are:
- Terry Denton’s Activity Book
- Mini Soccer Ball (size 2)
- Treetop Stationary Set
- Treetop Handball
- Tomato Seed Kit
- Magic Mist Drink Bottle
- Emoji Wallet
- Snakes & Ladders Game
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online
Visit at the link below and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
https://www.commbank.com.au/banking/school-banking.html
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is Wednesday. Each week you need to see Trish and Robyn in the Library. The first session this year will be the 19th of February.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2020 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit at the link below.

School Chaplain
“The power of an apology”
Why should we say sorry? After all, it’s just a word!
Saying sorry can be one of the most difficult tasks to do in our lives. Often, people push away the apology part and try to fix the issue in other ways. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work.
When we refuse to apologise, we build a barrier in the relationship with those who have offended us and this barrier will always remain up in our lives. It will most likely make the relationship deteriorate.
Without an apology, we store up anger and resentment. We are robbing ourselves from true happiness when we store up anger and resentment as it doesn’t hurt anyone else other than ourselves.
Saying sorry is not just saying a word. It has the power to break down that barrier that has been holding us back. It has the power to restore broken relationships and produce great long life friendships. A genuine apology will open the door to forgiveness and reconciliation
Saying sorry will set us free.

Year 7 Dance Enrichment Program at Ashdale Secondary College
Ashdale Secondary College has been trialling a Dance Enrichment program for Year 7 and 8 students on a Monday and Thursday mornings, before school.
This program has been highly successful and it provides talented and passionate dance students the opportunity to further develop their skills as well as theoretical knowledge within a discrete class learning environment for an entire year.
The Dance Enrichment Program will have a focus on developing all aspects associated with The Arts, focusing largely on technique, composition and performance and will provide a clear pathway into Senior School (ATAR) with the aim of each student attaining either a Certificate II and/or III in Dance by the end of Year 12.
For 2021 these classes will be held on Monday and Thursday mornings (7:45-8:45am). The Dance Enrichment Program is a contemporary dance program however, opportunities exist to learn other genres as well as dance theory, history, choreography and composition. In Year 7 and 8, the program has a strong focus on technical dance skill development in the contemporary dance genre, along with jazz, hip hop, tap, commercial dance, world dance styles, musical theatre, industry skills and choreographic skills.
