School Vision

Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected.

From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

We are so happy to have almost all of the students back at school. Although a few things are still a little bit different at this time.

Parents are still not able to enter the school grounds. We greatly appreciate your compliance with this rule. Please remember to keep social distancing when outside of the gates waiting for your child/children. On a positive note, we have seen the younger students develop increased independence whilst entering the school grounds and making their way to class. All student drop off and collection areas are working quite well. I would like to thank everyone for their patience and adherence to the rules.

Our canteen will re-open with increased hygiene and cleaning practices. They will be open for Thursday (4 July) and Friday (5 July) lunch only. Lunches must be pre-ordered online. Please see P & C news for further details.

Drink fountains are still closed at the moment, so please ensure that you send your child to school with a filled water bottle. They can refill it during the day if necessary.

Pre-arranged meetings with parents and carers are now permitted for the purposes of enrolment, case conferences, medical reasons and emergencies. Essential health and wellbeing providers are also permitted on school site at this time with prior authorisation by the school.

Enhanced cleaning procedures and hygiene practices continue to be put in place across the whole school.

Sickness

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) makes recommendations to the Department of Education in relation to reducing the risk of COVID-19 and provides the following statement for parents: if your child is sick, they must not go to school. You must keep them at home and away from others. Remember to maintain physical distancing from other parents and teachers when attending school, including when dropping off and picking up your children. We ask all parents to keep their sick children at home to minimise transmission of COVID-19 as well as any other colds/flu or other bugs.

Student Attendance

Now that students are again required to be back at school (unless medically exempted), it is a timely reminder that parents must send their children to school unless:

  • they are too unwell
  • they have an infectious disease, or
  • the principal is provided with a genuine and acceptable reason.

In order for children to have every opportunity to grow to their full potential, students must be at school every day unless for the reasons listed above. For all student absences, parents must provide an acceptable explanation of their child’s absence within 3 business days of the absence.

Reports

Reporting to Parents will look different this semester due to COVID-19 disruptions. Please note that schools are not required to report in A-E grades for Semester 1 Student Reports. However, teachers will be providing comments to outline each student’s achievement and progress throughout the semester in Literacy and Numeracy in addition to their General comment.

The Nationally Consistent Data Collection

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (the national data collection) is an annual collection that counts the number of school students receiving an adjustment due to disability and the level of reasonable adjustment they are receiving.

The national data collection counts students who have been identified by our school team as receiving an adjustment to address a disability as defined under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (the DDA). The DDA can be accessed from the ComLaw website at the link below.

http://www.comlaw.gov.au/

The aim of the national data collection is to collect quality information about school students receiving an adjustment due to disability in Australia.

This information will help teachers, principals, education authorities and families to better support students with a disability to take part in school on the same basis as other students.

The national data collection provides an opportunity for schools to review their learning and support systems and processes to continually improve education outcomes for their students with disability. Teachers will be engaging in professional dialogue, undertaking professional learning and participating in the data collection over the next few months.

Have a great weekend.

School Chaplain

Family life is full of give and take, which means sharing the jobs as well as the fun. It is realistic to expect children to help out at home. Many parents, however, have difficulty getting their children to help. Some spend so much time nagging children to do jobs that they often give up asking and expect little of them. There is no need to overburden children with jobs, but sensible allocation off chores according to their age, homework requirements and interests is not only good training but also a great help for parents as well.

Ideas:

  • Give your children realistic jobs rather than tasks that simply keep them busy.
  • Balance the personal chores with family jobs. Involve your children in choosing their jobs. Rotate the unpleasant tasks frequently.
  • Place the more difficult tasks on a roster. Your children can refer to it when needed, which takes the load off you and removes the need to remind them.
  • Ensure the jobs are completed before mealtime and pleasant activates such as watching television.
  • Avoid doing jobs for your children. When your children get the message that no one will do their jobs for them they will be more likely to help out.
  • Show your appreciation for their help. Let them know that their contribution to the family is valued. If you do it often enough they may even show their appreciation for your help in return.
  • Keep chores and pocket money separate. It is a reasonable expectation that your children should help around the house without expecting a reward.

Sick Students at school

It is important that parents do not send sick children to school. Some sicknesses are more contagious than others and we do not want any sickness to spread, so please be diligent. Sick children will be sent home where they can rest and recover.
