School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
I can’t believe we are already half way through Term 1. The students have settled well and have been working industriously in their new classes. With swimming lessons coming up soon, we will have a busy remainder of the term, no doubt.
School Board Parent Representative Election
Please place your vote for a new parent rep for the School Board. You would have received an email on Tuesday 3 March with all of the instructions. If you didn't receive an email with an access code, please contact the front office. Voting closes on Thursday 12 March.
Easter on the Green
Easter on the Green is on Friday 27 March. Parent volunteers are always needed to assist in manning rides and selling tickets. Please sign up to assist with this amazing event for our school community. There are still many helpers required for the evening. These big events don't happen without the hard work of Carolyne Cole and her amazing helpers. I would also like to thank Kane Pountney for once again lending our school his time and audio visual equipment for the event.
ANZAC Service
Our school will be hosting our ANZAC Service on Thursday 9th April at 9am. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of the community to join us for the special event. Thank you to Mrs Dawn Chester for all of the time and effort she puts into the organisation of such a beautiful ceremony.
Voluntary Contributions and Charges 2020
We strongly encourage parents and carers to pay the contributions and charges for this year. We use these funds to purchase valuable resources for our literacy, numeracy, Humanities, STEM and Health and Physical Education programs. The voluntary contributions and charges include a resource charge $60 per child along with a P & C voluntary contribution of $20/ child or $40/ family and a $20 - $30 fee to cover the costs of the online programs used at school.
We have an incentive prize for all families who pay their contributions by the end of this term by going in a draw to win a $200 Woolworths gift card. I would like to acknowledge and thank all families who have already paid their fees for this year.
SDD - wrap up
Last Friday we had a School Development Day whereby the staff were engaged in a range of professional learning activities to strengthen their ability to adjust the curriculum to meet the learning needs of all students. We worked with the PEAC (Primary Extension and Academic Challenge) Team for half of the day building our professional skills and knowledge in enriching and extending our more capable students. We spent the second half of the day working to complete an ABLEWA assessment for students who are significantly at educational risk. Using these assessment outcomes, we spent time learning how to use an online tool to develop specific educational programs to meet the students' identified needs.
Have a great weekend.

ANZAC Commemorative Service
Since that fateful landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915, April 25 has been an important day in Australia. Anzac Day is now commemorated without any of the original Anzacs and so it is with great respect that we continue to remember their courage and bravery.
Madeley Primary School ANZAC Commemorative Service details are as follows:
Date: Thursday 9th April
Time: Commencing 9am
- Students can bring their own flower to lay during the ceremony.
- Students belonging to scouts, guides, cubs etc may wear their uniforms to the ceremony.
All welcome to attend!
Lost Property
Students' personal property should be clearly marked with full name. Please make identification markings as clear as possible and renew when faded.
All large lost property e.g. clothing, lunch boxes, drink bottles… are sent to the Lost Property box outside the covered assembly area.
All small lost property e.g. glasses, wallets, watches.. are sent to the Library
Every effort is made to return named items. Unmarked items of school uniform will be placed in the spare clothing pool. Other items (non-school uniform) will be delivered to a local clothing charity centre.
Students should not bring valuable items including electronic devices to school for use at playtime. Supervision of such property is difficult and loss or damage may occur.

LLA4
In LLA 4 we have been adjusting to the new routines and expectations of Year One. We used a Venn Diagram to brainstorm the similarities and differences between Year One and Pre-Primary. There are lots of things which are different now that we are in big school. Our teachers, Mrs Kirov and Mrs Swift, are very impressed with how well we are settling in.
Our favourite things about Year One are: having our own desk and pencil cases, playing line chasey, buying ice-creams and slushies at the canteen, creating with the LEGO, drawing, sentence writing and cutting. We enjoy playing in the big playground, the Nature Play, the oval and the basketball courts.

WHAT TO WEAR Children are to wear full school uniform with their bathers underneath their uniform to school at the beginning of the day. Students are encouraged to wear thongs or sandals to the pool but must also bring shoes to get changed into when they get back to school. Please write your child’s name clearly on all items (school uniform, bathers, goggles, thongs etc). Lost property will be placed outside the undercover area.
WHAT TO BRING:
- A plastic bag with child’s name clearly marked on the bag.
- Put underclothes and towel in the plastic bag with name clearly marked on ALL items.
- Swimming goggles are permitted (not essential), but no snorkelling goggles please.
- Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery is to be worn.
SWIMMING STAGE In the first week you may receive a note informing you that your child has been placed in a different stage to the one written on the form. This can be due to a number of reasons including: Your child has not swum in 12 months so needs to re-learn certain skills, your child isn’t displaying the correct technique for their stage or perhaps they were placed in the incorrect stage to begin with. If you have any queries, please put these in writing and give it to the class teacher or Mr Moon.
SWIMMING CERTIFICATES It is important for students to try their best and set a goal. Passing their swimming stage is not the most important thing. Endeavouring to improve and the learning of a vital life skill are the two things we should all focus on. When your child receives their certificate, compare it to last years and acknowledge their effort and improvement rather than asking “did you pass”?

School Banking
Can you volunteer?
We need your help with the School Banking program!
Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help.
The program requires a volunteer School Banking Co-ordinator to facilitate the banking and distribution of School Banking rewards. The School Banking is processed at the same time each week and will only takes a small amount of your time. The Commonwealth Bank will provide support in how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising.
Currently, School Banking day is Wednesday, but changes to the day can be discussed based on the volunteer’s availability.
If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, please contact Trish or Robyn in the library on Wednesday mornings, or leave your details in the front office.
School Banking day is Wednesday. Each week you need to see Trish and Robyn in the Library.

School Chaplain
Chaplains Chat
As parents we’re often concerned about the connections children and young people are making and the subsequent impact on their wellbeing. Just a quick conversation tip:
If someone says, “I’m not ok”, try opening up the conversation with: ‘I am sorry to hear that. Would you like to talk about it?’ Then listen, don’t judge and help them think about what they can do to manage what is making them feel stressed or upset.
Remember it is not your responsibility to fix their problem; it’s your responsibility to listen. Please see Ms Stitfold if you think I can be of any assistance to you or your children.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update
While the Dept of Health advises that the risk of transmission in Australia remains low, the situation is being monitored closely and we will be acting on any advice provided to us. Please note that students or staff cannot attend school if they have
- left or transited through mainland China in the last 14 days, they must be isolated for 14 days from the date of leaving mainland China OR
- left or transited through Iran on or after 1 March, they must isolate for 14 days after leaving Iran; and
- been informed by public health authorities that they have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus, must isolate for 14 days after the date of last contact with the confirmed case.
Parents/carers and staff should notify their school if the student or staff member will be away for the isolation period and confirm the date in which they were last in the mainland China or Iran. A medical certificate is not required for the student to return to school.
The above also applies to all parents/carers, contractors, visitors and volunteers on school sites. If you are planning a trip overseas, in the near future, please contact the office ASAP to let us know the details in case the travel bans are extended. Thank you.
I believe that this is a timely reminder for all parents /carers and teachers to remind children about healthy hygiene practices, in particular, covering their coughing and sneezing and lathering for at least 20 sec ( or two rounds of singing the Happy Birthday or the Alphabet song) before washing their hands under water. Additionally, the Dept of Health advises the following ways to protect oneself and others against COVID-19;
- Frequently washing your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or using an alcohol-based hand gel
- Refraining from touching mouth and nose
- If coughing or sneezing, covering your nose and mouth with a paper tissue or flexed elbow. Dispose of the tissue immediately after use and perform hand hygiene and
- Avoiding close contact with anyone if you, or they, have a cold or flu-like symptoms (maintain a distance of at least 1 metre).
With all community members committed to supporting one another to stay safe, let's hope that we can minimise or even
