From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers, Community Members
Parent Survey
Our thanks go to the 100 parents who took the time to complete the 2015 Parent Community Survey. This is a return rate of approximately 27% which means that the survey is reflective of around a quarter of our school population.
The survey will provide us with useful information that we can use to further develop and improve our school going into 2016 and beyond. The survey provided parents with an opportunity to comment on the processes and practices of our school and this year we included specific sections that looked at the School Board, One - One MacBook Program and Positive Behaviour Education Policy.
It was great to get so much positive feedback about our school. It was also good to get plenty of suggestions about things we could work on and improve. Staff will spend time reviewing the survey along with one that was conducted with students and staff as part of our school's self-review process.
We will endeavour to report some of the findings of the survey via newsletters this year and early next year. Below is some data from the 'Leadership and Management' section of the survey.
The items were rated between 1 (strongly disagree agree) to 5 (strongly agree). Average rating above 2.5 indicates a mostly positive response to the survey items. These average responses, combined with specific comments will help us to plan for improvement.
Remembrance Day
Our students participated in a short but moving ceremony to remember our fallen armed service personnel last Wednesday. Many thanks go to the parents who attended and to Mrs Chester for organising the event again this year.
Play Is The Way Parent Information Meeting
Many thanks also go to the parents who attended the PITW meeting last week. This was a good opportunity to hear about the approach being taken by the school to Positive Behaviour Education. We hope to conduct more parent meetings like this in 2016.
Have a great weekend everyone

Pre-Primary LLA3 Geography
This term in Geography, the Pre-Primaries of LLA3 have been talking about houses and homes, focusing on why we need homes and the kind of things we do in them. We have also be thinking about the materials used to make houses, how they differ from each other and from those in other parts of the country and the world. To gain a better understanding of this, we went for a short walk around our local area to observe the different styles of house. We even saw some houses being built and the materials that were being used. The Pre-Primaries enjoyed their walk and had fun using clipboards to have a go at taking notes of their observations.

BLA1 - Zoo Camp
The Year 4 students of Mr Eddison's class had an amazing time with the annual Zoo Camp. For many of the students it was their first camp and the tales they had to tell following the camp were of course endless. The camp began in the usual fashion with a race around the zoo finding information on certain animals to complete a crossword. It was good to see one group manage to complete this rather challenging task leaving one of the lucky parent helpers somewhat breathless.
Some of the key highlights for the students were having the opportunity to touch a snake, staying up really late, exploring the zoo at night, Mr Eddison's great sausage sizzle dinner, creating an enrichment item for the Tasmanian Devil and later watching the Tasmanian Devil eat it.
Some of the highlights for Mr Eddison were completing another trouble free camp, not getting woken to go to the toilet for the first time in five years and lastly getting up close and personal with a crazy dancing snake.
Regards
Andrew Eddison

BLA2 – Zoo Camp
The Year 4 students of Mrs Phillips' class had an awesome time at the Zoo Camp. With excitement and nervousness, they ventured on what was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Perth Zoo animals at night.
After completing activities when they first arrived, they were anxiously waiting to complete a night walk through the zoo at 9.30pm led by only one torch. It was an amazing walk! The students managed to stay quiet enough to see many animals out and about at night – including the elephants, rhinos and the tiger (who is never normally seen at night – it was the first time the guide had seen her too!).
Other key highlights of the camp was all sleeping in a Zoo barn, staying up really, really, really late, and creating an enrichment item for the Tasmanian Devil. However, the biggest thrill was when it was raining during the day and the rarely sighted Fennec Foxes came out to sit on their rock and enjoy the damp. There were twenty seven very happy students (and adults too)!
It was Mrs Phillips first time on Zoo camp and her highlights were seeing the African Painted Dogs play fighting, that everyone was so well behaved and had lots of fun, and that she managed to get three hours sleep!
The class members of BLA2 want to thank the parents that attended (Carolyn, Claire, Daniel and Kevin) for all their help, as well as Miss Statkus for spending the night with us too.
Kirryn Phillips

MLA3/MLA4 - Around the World Assembly
On Friday 6th November, the Year 1's from MLA3 and 4 performed their fantastic 'Around the World' assembly. Emily and Kai visited six continents. They saw the canals of Venice in Italy and amazing animals in Africa. Then, Emily and Kai celebrated Chinese New Year in Asia. Next, they were greeted by the soothing sounds of Hawaii and they watched a Mexican Hat Dance.
In South America, Kai and Emily met Messi and saw some colourful toucans in the Amazon Rainforest. For their last stop, they visited the coldest and windiest continent, Antarctica. Emily and Kai loved their adventure but they realised, there's nothing like Australia.
The Year 1's did a terrific job remembering all their lines and dances. They had a wonderful time learning about the continents of the world.

We have sold over half but with 350 cookbooks to go we would love to sell them at our new reduced rate and use the profits to purchase resources for our children. Please contact Mariesa O'Donnell at mariesa76@iinet.net.au if you are interested.
