School Vision
Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected. |
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Wow! What a busy term we are having and will continue to have for the next two weeks. Third Term is always a busy and productive term and this one has been no exception.
Parent Survey
At Madeley PS we really value the engagement and feedback of parents. Our annual parent survey provides us with valuable information to assist us in planning for improvement. We use this information each year in our ongoing self-reflection and our annual report. I ask that all parents please complete the 5-10min survey. It is due to close on 20th Sept. The link is as follows:
https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/M79nC98R
10 year Anniversary and Open Night
We extend the warmest welcome to all community members to join us for our 10 year anniversary and open night on Tuesday 24th Sept from 4:30pm – 6:30pm. We will be starting with a short assembly to commemorate our 10 year anniversary and then parents will be welcome to tour past our special art project to celebrate our milestone and then to take a learning journey through their child’s classroom/s. We would love to see you there.
Students Leaving at the end of the school year
It is of critical importance for us to be informed if a student is leaving as small changes to our student numbers can make a big difference to the way we structure our classes for the following year. This planning is conducted next term. Therefore, if your child is leaving the school, could you please send us a quick email at Madeley.PS@education.wa.edu.au or inform your child’s class teacher.
NAPLAN
This year, the average achievement of our Year 3 students is above the national average for all five testing areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation as well as Numeracy. We are so very proud of this achievement. This is the first time that we have been able to achieve above the national mean in all testing areas for Year 3.
Unfortunately this year, our Year 5 achievement in all areas was slightly below the national mean. We are committed to continually self-reflect, plan and implement measures to achieve improved results for the future.
We have a team of dedicated and hard-working professionals committed to continual school improvement. We utilise evidence-based literacy and numeracy programs in addition to our MiniLit/MaqLit program for students experiencing difficulties. Our Literacy and Numeracy Leaders work with teachers to improve outcomes for students.
Individual Student NAPLAN reports will be coming home for students in Year 3 and Yr 5. This report indicates the Australian Mean, our school’s mean as well as each child’s achievement against these means in each testing area.
Athletics Carnivals
A big thank you to Mr Moon and all of the staff for their hard work in preparation for our carnivals. We had lots of positive feedback about the success of the events and the students had a fun and active time. A very big thank you to parents and caregivers who were able to attend on the day to cheer on the students. We wish all of our interschool competitors the very best for the Interschool Jumps and Throws next Tuesday 17th Sept and the Interschool Athletics on Thursday 19th Sept.
STEM Expo at Ashdale Secondary College
On Tuesday 10th Sept the Year 5 students attended the STEM Expo at ASC. The students participated in a wide range of interactive STEM based activities that were a lot of fun and inspired their curiosity. A few of their favourite activities for the day included a competition to build the tallest, most stable tower with spaghetti and tape whereby they had to balance the weight of marshmallows on the top.
Another favourite for the day had the students acting as news reporters on location conducting interviews. This was held in the college’s media centre where the students made use of the green screen to look like they were on-location for the interview.
Cluster Student Leaders
Our student leaders will be attending the Ern Halliday Cluster Student Leaders Day Camp on Monday 23rd September. The day will be filled with fun and engaging challenges with all student leaders across the cluster. The challenges include a big crate climb, team building and problem solving as well as archery. We wish the student leaders a wonderful time on their day camp.
As the students get weary as we near the end of the term, I would ask for you to remind students of our golden rule to ‘treat others as they would like to treat you’ for the remainder of the term. I would like to wish everyone a wonderful and safe school holidays. School holidays start on Sat 28th Sept and students are due back to school on Monday 14th Oct. The School Development
Days for next term are on Friday 1 Nov and Friday 20th Dec.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Students' personal property should be clearly marked with full name. Please make identification markings as clear as possible and renew when faded.
All lost property is sent to the Lost Property box outside the covered assembly area. At the end of each term, items are displayed for classes and parents to inspect. Every effort is made to return named items. Unmarked items of school uniform will be placed in the spare clothing pool. Other items (non-school uniform) will be delivered to a local clothing charity centre.

STEM
Year 1 and 2 Polar Bear Collaborative STEM Project
In STEM the year 1 and 2 students from LLA5, MLA1 and MLA2 have been investigating polar bears as part of our STEM project.
The year 1’s and 2’s started by investigated why our polar bear numbers are decreasing and researched how they live and where they sleep. We graphed what we found out.
With a partner we conducted an experiment to find out about blubber and how the polar bears use it to keep them warm. We had to put one hand in the “blubber glove” (made out of butter/fat) and the other hand in ice cold water. This experiment helped us to understand how blubber keeps the polar bears warm.
The students worked in small groups to build clay polar bears, write a budget for our project and design and build a new polar bear den. It was a fun and exciting project and the students enjoyed working in collaborative groups.

School Canteen
Parents and families Thank you for the fantastic response of purchasing ice creams and drinks on Faction carnival day. Thank you to the parents who volunteered in serving as well as helping out with the pre orders.
There are still quite a few families that haven’t updated child/rens teachers in QuickCliq. Please check to see if your details are correct.
We have fortnightly specials on Wed & Thursday as these are our quieter days and we have time to prepare. Friday’s are our busiest day with well over double the orders so it can be very hectic and doesn’t allow us to prepare specials. In saying this we would appreciate volunteers on a Friday morning 9 – 10 am to help out with food prep ie Cheesies, Sandwiches, cutting Hot Dog rolls and making Pikelets or even washing up dishes. If you are available please come down and see me or email to madeleypscanteen@gmail.com with availability so I can pencil you in.
The preference is to order online, as you will be able to see ‘Specials’ and ‘Meal Deals’ we will have for the week. To Order click on ONLINE CANTEEN link below.

School Chaplain
Hello everyone!
Almost the end of term, can you believe how quickly to has gone!?
Here are some tips for you to use if your children or yourself tend to worry a lot:
- At the end of your day, or when you are feeling down about your day, say 3 things that made you happy
- Write out your worries, tear them up and throw them away
- Pebbles = Worries
- Through them away and find a flower to look at - Inflate an imaginary balloon
- Each breathe is a worry. When it’s fully inflated, let it go and picture it flying around the room.
Building a good relationship and understanding your children better can be beneficial for everyone.
Please see Ms Stitfold if you think the chaplain can be of any assistance to you or your children.
