Western Power Circuit Breakers
Madeley Primary School has become a part of the Western Power Circuit Breakers.
We have won a place for a group of students to learn how electricity is supplied and used in WA. We have won two 3D printers and assistance from a Western Power Engineer to help us. At the end of the term we get to present our learning at the Western Power Science Fair.
Program overview
Circuit Breakers is an exciting engineering outreach program for primary school students in years 4 – 6. The program focuses on a variety of aspects of the Western Power network, exploring what it takes to provide electricity to our community that is safe and reliable, as well as exploring new technologies that are changing the way we look at electricity supply in the future.

Calling all citizen scientists, we need your help to learn more about the biodiversity and Mini Beasts of Western Australia!
Our State is home to amazing parks and bushland areas that each have their own unique biodiversity—and we want to know more about the insects and little critters that contribute to these environments.
Helping is simple. Download the MyPestGuideTM Reporter app and start taking photos of the Mini Beasts you find in your back garden, neighbourhood and local parks. The data you collect will contribute to our knowledge!

Changes to Faction Athletics Carnival
The Faction Athletics Carnival is to be held on the school oval on Thursday 16th August. The carnival is for Kindy to Year 6 students and there will be a number of changes this year. The reasons for the changes are:
- Our school has grown. More students mean more races and this in turn means more time waiting for your children. We are trying to increase participation and decrease wait time for students.
- Decreased wait time will mean less behaviour issues and improved health benefits.
- All students will get to be involved in all team games where in the past this has not always been the case, resulting in more fun for everyone.
- Our student leaders requested the inclusion of more games, in particular “traditional” games such as sack races.

Remember every Tuesday is Trash Free. Please consider the environment and store your food in reusable containers. Every day could be a ‘Trash Free Day’ with some planning.
Packing a Waste Free Lunch
Waste free means only packing items that can be composted or recycled and that won’t end up in the garbage bin. For example; no plastic wrap, no foil, no zip lock bags and no packaged foods.

School Banking
What's School Banking?
The School Banking program provides a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good saving habits.
Run nationally since 1931 through participating primary schools, School Banking encourages children to regularly deposit money into their Youthsaver account and earn silver Dollarmites tokens, which can then be redeemed for an exciting reward through our School Banking Rewards Program.
Get your child started
Madeley Primary School participates in School Banking, all you’ll need to do is open a Youthsaver account for your child or they can use their existing one. If they require a Dollarmites deposit wallet for their existing Youthsaver account, please call CommBank 13 2221 anytime or visit your nearest branch.
The Youthsaver account is a savings account that has no monthly account fees and offers a competitive bonus interest rate when you make at least one deposit and no withdrawals in a calendar month on balances up to $50,000.
This year the school banking will be held on
Wednesday morning in the Library from 8.30 – 8.50am. Please enter the Library through the side entrance – playground side.
Trish Johnson and Robyn Walton have volunteered to be banking Co-ordinators this year. If you have any queries, please contact them or come and see them on Wednesday morning in the Library.
