From the Principal
Farewell Michelina Vinci
As many of you may have heard Michelina Vinci will be leaving Madeley Primary School for an exciting opportunity at Central TAFE working with adult immigrants. This is a wonderful new challenge for Michelina and we wish her all the best in her new position. Michelina will of course be terribly missed within the school community and we would like to thank her for all she has bought to the school community during her time with us.
Staff Changes
There are a number of staff changes for next term. Firstly we welcome back Michelle Legg who will be covering the Health Curriculum with Years 3-7. Jenny Jones will be covering the Science Curriculum with Years 1-2. By removing a component of the curriculum means classroom teachers have more class time to focus on the key areas of Literacy and Numeracy.
Libby Waddell will be in an acting Deputy Principal role, replacing Jude James for the first three weeks of term while she is on leave.
Cluster Muster
The annual Cluster Muster, an event organised to celebrate and showcase Visual and Performing Arts throughout the cluster schools, was held on Friday in the Theatre at Ashdale Secondary College. Madeley Primary had students involved in performance from GLA1 and GLA4. Needless to say, our students did us proud performing in a professional manner. We also had an exceptional Visual Art display set up in the foyer displaying a variety of projects completed over the semester. Thanks must go to Mrs Chester, Miss Gull and Miss Horrocks for their hard work and contributions to the annual event.
Reporting
Reports and portfolios were sent out on Tuesday with the students. I was pleased with the general standards across the school. Having read all the reports I was pleased with the effort, love of learning and motivation to improve demonstrated by the majority of students.
Parents should be aware, the staff at Madeley PS go above and beyond the Education Departments expectations by providing comments on nearly every curriculum area. Teachers are only required to make comment on Literacy and Numeracy along with providing a general comment.
Finally I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday. It has been a very busy term but a great one, next term does not look any quieter. Stay safe over the holidays and we will see you all back Tuesday 22nd July.

Ciao Amici e Famiglie a MPS
As I leave MPS I wish to thank, congratulate and encourage all families in our community. I thank you for teaching your children to respect culture and uniqueness. I congratulate you on supporting your children by attending to their innermost needs. I encourage you to nurture your own personal growth so that your journey in life will be rewarding and safe.
Many students will be interested in continuing their languages education and so I offer these sites for those moments when their desire to speak Italian (or other languages) hits them!

It’s Cluster Muster time again, and Madeley Visual Arts students have their work proudly displayed at Ashdale SC alongside their peers from Landsdale and Ashdale schools. I'm very impressed with how well our students have applied themselves in Art this semester; it shows in the quality of work currently on exhibit. Well done to all involved.
Thank you to the Madeley P&C who have kindly granted $350 to buy materials to complete a school enhancement project with the year 6/7 Environmental Group. We are looking forward to commencing this next term. We will be designing mini murals for the rubbish bins and jazzing up the poles around the central quadrangle. I'm looking forward to seeing the results!
I will be taking Long Service Leave on Thursdays for second semester so I can pursue my personal art practice. The fabulous Pana Devereaux will be teaching Visual Art in my place and therefore she will be overseeing the Year 3, 6 and 7's Visual Arts programmes. She's really enthusiastic and can't wait to have the opportunity to be an Art Specialist Teacher for a little while! (Well who could blame her, it’s pretty good fun!) Good luck Pana and we welcome you to Madeley!
I wish you all the best for a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to seeing everyone back nice and refreshed next term.

RSPCA Excursion – Year 1’s

On Thursday 12th of June MLA2 and MLA3 went to the RSPCA. First we ate recess then Peta taught us what RSPCA stands for. Then she taught us how to look after pets. Then we went on the tour. We saw dogs and cats then we saw Charlotte the guinea pig. Then we saw a bunny rabbit. Then we went to plant carrots. Then we ate lunch and went back to school. When we got back we played. I felt happy because I had fun.
Adam MLA2
On Thursday 12th June MLA2 and MLA3 went to RSPCA to learn about how to take care of animals and to see all the pets. First we lined up to get on the bus. Next we were at the RSPCA for the excursion. Then we went inside to eat recess. Finally Peta showed what you need to take care of animals. Then we went on tour. After the tour we went into the playroom to scare Miss Browne after we planted vegIes. It was animals crazy!
Cloris MLA2
School in the 1900’s – MLA2
The students in MLA2 have been learning about how school was different in the early 1900s. We had a dress up day and did some activities so we could experience school the way children in the past did.
Pre-Primary Bee Incursion
On Friday 27th June, Sonny visited the Pre-Primary classes to talk about BEES. Luckily the Queen Bee and worker bees were held in a glass case so they couldn’t get out and sting us. We learned lots of interesting facts about bees and we also made candles BUT the best part was tasting the different kinds of honey. Thanks Sonny!

Matthew meets Matthew!
Congratulations to Matthew who managed to meet one of his idols Fremantle Docker Matthew Pavlich at a recent charity fundraiser for Onesight.
Goal Setting
Goal setting is a very important and powerful tool to help children achieve their goals. With the phasing out of bribes such as stickers, merit awards and tokens, goal setting and striving for personal bests become even more important as a motivational tool. The upcoming cross country is a good opportunity for all students to set themselves a goal. The goal should be challenging but achievable. Ask your child what their goal is. Here are some examples of goals that students have set for themselves:
“To complete the course without stopping”
“To jog or run the whole way”
“To do better than I did last year”
“To finish in the top 10”
“To finish in the top 4”
“I finished second last year so my goal is to win”

WAKAKIRRI
Tickets
Wednesday 2nd of July is your last day to order your tickets for the Wakakirri performance at the Regal Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at the front office at a cost of $33 each. There are currently an unlimited number of tickets available to all parents at this stage; however at 2pm on Wednesday the 2nd of July, tickets will cease being sold at Madeley Primary School. After this date, they will need to be ordered through the Wakakirri website at www.wakakirri.com.au. If there are any available as these are released to the general public and sell out very quickly. Please note if you choose to purchase your tickets through the website, you may not be allocated seats next to other parents of Madeley Primary School.
Help Required!
We have had some parents offering their assistance to help with catering and gluing of costumes, however we still require more help! If you have any remnants or strips of material (any colour), thin and slightly thicker rope (any colour) or strips of faux fur material (any colour) you would be willing to donate, or if you can assist in catering (fruit platters, sandwiches, nibble platters etc.), glittering or sewing of costumes, or car-pooling, please let me know ASAP so we can organise this as performance time is drawing near!
Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm and support, the students are VERY excited to share their story with you.
Cluster Muster
On the 27th of June, Madeley’s Performing Arts Troupe, GLA1 and GLA4 attended the annual Cluster Muster performance at Ashdale Secondary College. GLA1 performed their assembly item “Cinderella” first and had the audience in stitches with their song selection. The Performing Arts Troupe performed “Defying Gravity” from the musical “Wicked”. The troupe worked extremely hard during their lunchtimes to rehearse and persevered with the songs challenging pitch and acrobatic dance routine. The students’ costumes were outstanding with each student wearing an individual witch or wizard costume. GLA1 and GLA4 performed “Revolting Children” from the musical “Matilda”. Students looked fantastic wearing their alternative school uniform singing away in Miss Trunchball’s classroom.
Special thanks must go to Mrs Pushpa Patel and Mrs Renata Markovic for their assistance in making costumes and also Mrs Phillips and Ms Simpson for their organisation of costumes for the classes.
I would like to say how proud I am of all students for all their efforts, professionalism and enthusiasm. Congratulations on an outstanding performance once again!
From the extremely proud and enthusiastic,
Miss G
