School Vision

Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected.

From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

Thanks to our P&C

Our P&C are a very active and important part of the Madeley Primary School community. At last week’s meeting the P&C contributed over $11000 to important activities and events in our school. We thank our P&C and all the parents/community members who support them. Below are the areas that will benefit from P&C funding this year:

  • Play & Learn EA - $4000
  • English/Literacy additional reading resources - $2303.90
  • Year 6 Camp subsidy - $1300
  • World Book Online subscription - $2200
  • PE – trophy engraving - $300
  • Book Week activities - $300
  • Melaleuca Block resource request - $562.87
  • Nature Play/STEM resources - $750

Celebrating Success

Congratulations go to Matthew Carroll who was recently accepted into the Belridge Secondary College Cricket Academy 2018 intake. We wish Matthew all the best as he pursues his passion for cricket.

School Uniform

Our school is very proud of its place within the Madeley community. The wearing of school uniform helps to promote pride and identifies each student as a member of the Madeley Primary School family. We encourage parents to ensure that their child always wears their uniform or the recognised school colours every day.

Reminders About Pick Up Areas

When picking up children in the afternoon, here are a few suggestions for you to help ease traffic congestion around our school.

  • Pre -arrange a pick up place with your children.
  • If possible, arrange to meet your children a little further away from the school.
  • Arrange to meet your child/children 5 to 10 minutes later than school finish time to avoid congestion.
  • If this is not possible, then always attempt to park on the school side of the road to collect your children.
  • Use the Kiss and Drive pick up area – if your child is not there, move through the area and go around the block, or complete a loop around the round-abouts.
  • Otherwise park your car further away and walk into the school ground to meet your children.
  • Always be patient during pick up times so as to avoid accidents and possible injury.

Please do not park on or across pathways as it is a dangerous for our children.

Student Council Fundraiser

Our Student Council are holding a ‘Dress as your Favourite Sci-Fi Character’ day on May 25th. Students are asked to dress up and bring a gold coin donation. Funds will go towards supporting our sponsor child (Nazma) who lives in Bangladesh.

Introducing Our School Board

Survey data collected in 2017 indicated that the community would like to know more about our School Board and its members. For this reason we will be introducing each School Board member to you in our newsletters throughout 2017. The next School Board member I would like to introduce to you is Nicole Forrest

“I have been a member of the Madeley Primary School Board since 2016 and I have 2 children who attend the school, one in Year 5 and the other in Year 3. Being a school board member is important to me as it allows me to help play a part in shaping the future direction of the school. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with other board members and the community at Madeley Primary School.”

Have a great weekend everyone

The children were captivated by his stories about growing up in an Indigenous culture. Dr Nannup also taught the students one of the Indigenous songs about the Willy Wag Tail and the students had the opportunity to learn the dance.

Upon leaving Dr Nannup presented the school with one of his Noongar stories on CD for the teachers and students to enjoy.

Production – Space Jump

Monday 12th June & Tuesday 13th June 6pm
Ashdale Secondary College Theatre
$10 per ticket
Tickets go on sale Monday 29th May (two per family only).

We are very excited and have been busy choreographing our items in preparation for the whole school production. This year our production will involve all students from Year One to Year Six. This production is our opportunity to show off how talented the students at Madeley PS are. This year we have an entertaining original script full of cheesy jokes, familiar characters and plenty of dance songs.

Does my child need to be at both shows?

Yes. We need every student at both shows for the choreography. If you are not in the audience you can drop off and collect your student so they can perform their item. See individual class information, closer to the show, for more details.

Is there a dress rehearsal?

Yes. Students will need their complete costume for Monday 12th June as we are bussing to Ashdale Secondary College for a full dress rehearsal. This will also give students an opportunity to see the entire show with full lights and sound. Permission slips for this event will be sent home soon.

What about tickets?

Tickets will go on sale in Week Six, 29th May. Every family will be allocated two tickets to ensure every student has someone in the audience. Any remaining tickets will be released on a first come basis in Week Seven. If you require more tickets, due to family circumstance, please let the ladies in the front office know. To help cover costs we will be selling tickets for $10 each.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

If you have any questions, concerns, offers of help please email Brenda Kane at Brenda.Ovens@education.wa.edu.au or stop into the Performing Arts room in the Undercover Area.

Science

Science Room News!!

Did you know that when you can’t see the moon in the night sky, it hasn’t gone on holidays like Mrs Jones!!! For the past two weeks, the junior classes have been learning about the phases of the moon and why it changes shape. This week they had a lot of yummy fun making each of the 8 phases out of Oreo biscuits! Learning and eating….can’t get much better than that!!!

The senior classes have been spending their science lessons learning about the importance of our sun. This week we focused on what a Terrestrial planet was and how they differ from the gas planets. They then created their own terrestrial planet out of plaster of paris. Craters, cracks and mountains were just a few of the surfaces these ‘new planets’ have.

As explained to each of the classes, a ‘Look what have we made at home’ display has been set up in the Science room. Feel free to bring Space themed craft/pictures that you would like to show to the rest of the school, for me to place on the display board.

Head Lice

It has been brought to our attention that some students in the school have contracted head lice. It is imperative that you check your child’s head and, if necessary, treat any lice or eggs. Children must be treated for headlice before they can return to school.

In the interests of the other children at school, it is our policy to contact parents of children who are found to have head lice and request that they be picked up and treated accordingly.

The Fathering Project

Fathering Project- Madeley Champion Dads

The Fathering Project’s Schools’ Program aims to positively promote the important role of fathers, and father figures, to the entire school community through the formation of our “Madeley Champion Dads Fathering Project” group.

Weekly Tip: Fathers Who Have Daughters

For fathers who have daughters: you’re very important in a girl’s life.

Girls look to their fathers for all sorts of signals; three signals in particular, and they’ve got their radar out for them.

The first is: “Am I beautiful?” Not pretty, but am I beautiful.

Secondly, they get a lot of confidence from their dads. They are looking to dads to see whether they are capable, so don’t put them down and tell them they’re stupid. Encourage then, ask for their opinion, ask for their help.

Thirdly, they look to their dads to see how they can expect to be treated by a man. Set the bar of respect high – treat them with respect and they will not put up with disrespect from boys. But treat your daughters with disrespect, and they don’t think they deserve it.

And dads, please hug your daughters. It’s been shown that if fathers hug their daughters, their capacity for intimacy and love and a long-term relationship is vastly increased.

So, dads, you have a profound effect on your daughters – how they feel about themselves and how they’re going to function in future relationships with males.

For useful weekly tips, we currently have a Facebook Page- "Madeley Champion Dads Fathering Project" and we also encourage people to also like and follow "The Fathering Project" which is the support behind our group.
