School Vision

Madeley Primary School will nurture and promote life-long learners within a positive school community where respect is valued and independence and excellence are expected.

From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members

Connect

Last week all of our parents were sent log in details for Connect. This tool is just another way that we are trying to strengthen communication between home and school.

Our School Space on Connect will provide parents with up to date information about activities and events. It will provide opportunity for discussion and feedback and includes space for important documents to be stored and accessed.

Like all new things, it will take a little time for parents to become familiar with the way the Connect site is organised and navigated. I encourage you to take the time to log into Connect and familiarise yourself with how it works. Attached to this newsletter are flyers which highlight the key features of Connect as well as the Connect Now App.

Some teachers are also using Connect to keep parents informed about what their children are doing in class. I hope that more teachers will start to use Connect over the next year. If you want to know how your child’s teacher plans to use Connect please make a time to meet with them.

Student Leaders

Today our Student Leadership team are with me at the 2017 GRIP Conference. This is an exciting event which involves student leadership teams from across Perth. The skills that students’ will develop from this event will help them as they work in our school throughout 2017.

http://www.gripleadership.com.au/index.php?linkid=81

Interschool Cricket

Our T20 Interschool Cricket teams are competing in an interschool competition today at Kingsway Reserve. Ms Kekula and Mr Taddei have been preparing our Year 5/6 students for this exciting event and we wish them all the best for a great day.

Sponsor Child

In 2015 our Student Council began sponsoring a child through Save the Children Australia. Our sponsor child’s name is Nazma and she lives in Bangladesh with her mother and father. Our sponsorship helps provide Nazma with health, education, child protection and humanitarian response programs she needs. This sponsorship is a very practical way in which students demonstrate our golden rule “Treat others as you would like them to treat you.”

Letters from students and their families can be forwarded to Nazma through the office. Attached to this newsletter is a recent letter we received from Nazma.

P&C

Our P&C plays a vital role in our school and in the Madeley community. Without them we would not have a canteen or many of the additional resources and equipment that we currently enjoy. The school has a vision to build an amazing ‘Nature Play Space’ but without fundraising which will come from the P&C this will not be possible. Volunteering to be part of the P&C is something every parent should seriously consider. There is plenty of support for those who choose to get involved as well as the opportunity to make new friends and build contacts in the community. Most importantly, your contribution will make a difference for your kids both now and in the future.

Please come along to the next meeting on March 29 and consider getting involved.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Stephen Bevan
Principal

School Banking

Get involved in the School Banking program.

Madeley Primary is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

The rewards available during 2017 are:

  • Cyber Handball
  • Colour Change Markers
  • 3D Chalk Set
  • Tablet Case
  • Smiley Emoji Keyring
  • Volt Handball
  • Pencil + Tech Case
  • Epic Earphones

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).

Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

1. Online

Visit the link below and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.

http://www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

2. In branch

Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

School Banking day is Wednesday morning. Each week you need to bring your money and deposit book to the library (side entrance) from 8:30am.

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2017 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit below:

P&C News

P&C Association 2017

As noted in the last newsletter, there are a number of positions vacant on the P&C for 2017. The P&C requires, at a minimum, the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer in order to operate.

The 2017 P&C office bearers are as follows:

Secretary: Position vacant
Treasurer: Nomination received – voting at next meeting
Canteen Treasurer: Position vacant
Canteen Coordinator: Position vacant

Fundraising Officer: Carolyne Cole
Executive Members: Tania Leach, Sophy Oatey and Jacqueline Murray.

Our P&C Association at Madeley Primary School greatly benefits the children by:

  • Giving parents the opportunity to learn about the school’s policies and programs;
  • Organizing ways in which parents can share in shaping and developing school policies so that they reflect the broad agreement and support of the school community;
  • Bringing parents together to share information and views;
  • Assisting the school to build positive attitudes to students and their families;
  • Stimulating community interest and participation in education;
  • Raising funds and providing additional resources and amenities for the benefit of our school’s children.

All of this can not be possible without the assistance and contribution from parents, which does include Office Bearer roles as listed above.

We still have 4 positions vacant and all play a vital role to the success of our P&C. For anyone who also shares a passion for making a positive difference within our community, please come along to any of our P&C meetings through the year and if you believe you have the ability to assist even further please consider a vacant Office Bearer role this year.

If you are interested in nominating for a position or would like more information, please contact one of the P&C members or email madeleypandc@gmail.com.

Fathering Project- Madeley Champion Dads

The Fathering Project’s Schools’ Program aims to positively promote the important role of fathers, and father figures, to the entire school community through the formation of our “Madeley Champion Dads Fathering Project’ group.

Weekly Tip: Teaching Children Values

Teaching children values is imperative. Be specific about values you think are important – like trust, honesty, integrity, respect, racism and generosity to those who are poor and kindness to those in need.

  • Teach your children to accept people who are different, eg. kids who have a disability, are obese or ‘uncool’
  • Develop their conscience about issues like bullying and abusers – don’t leave a vacuum

Please remember actions always speak louder than words, so make sure what you do supports the values you teach.

For useful weekly tips, we currently have a Facebook Page- "Madeley Champion Dads Fathering Project" and we also encourage people to also like and follow "The Fathering Project" which is the support behind our group.
