1 August 2014
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Community
Welcome back to the commencement of second semester. This will be a very busy term with cross country, athletics and Science & Book Weeks all occurring along with our normal academic programs.
Cross Country
I am amazed at how our parents get involved in activities and support the school. We had a great turn out for our Faction Cross Country last week. Luckily the weather was very kind to us. Mr Moon has provided the relevant details of the champion faction, well done Lightning for winning the shield for the second year in a row! It was fantastic to see the level of participation school wide. I would like to thank the P&C for providing funds for the ribbons.
Madeley Strengths- Positive Education.
Both strengths and talents refer to things we do well. However, strengths, unlike talents, have some sort of moral association. In other words, using a strength is a morally good thing to do. For example being honest is considered moral, showing kindness is considered moral and being fair is considered moral. Honesty, kindness and fairness are therefore considered character strengths rather than talents.
Talents, in contrast to strengths, have no positive or moral association. A talent is natural ability to perform a specific type or task. A person may have musical talent or artistic talent etc. While people may want to have these talents, having a talent does not make a person a good person. Strengths (Honesty, kindness, fairness etc) are related to moral goodness. Although changes have been made, the strengths continue to be the core of our positive education.
DLA1 - Assembly
I must congratulate Mrs Barnes and the students of DLA1 Year 3 who, at the last assembly, showed us how to live well with many helpful tips. The students enjoyed entertaining the audience.
2015 Enrolments
We are currently working on enrolments and class structures for 2015. Please advise our front office staff if your child will not be returning to Madeley Primary School next year.
Later this term we will be asking our current Kindergarten families to confirm they require a place in Pre-Primary for 2015.
Principals Position
This is due to be advertised early next week with the successful applicant to begin the appointment beginning Term Four.

Well done to all of the students who participated in the Fun Run at the end of last term. Exciting New Fundraisers
Hog’s Breath Café
Madeley Primary School and Hog’s Breath Café Joondalup have joined forces to help our school raise funds to purchase new resources.
It is very easy to help our school. Every time you eat at Hog’s Breath Joondalup and order a kids meal and an adult meal mention that you are from Madeley Primary School and you will be given a $5 voucher. Bring your vouchers to school and place them in the box at the front office.
At the end of each month we will take our vouchers to Hog’s Breath and they will exchange them for a cheque for our school to the total value of the vouchers.
So please help out our school and eat at Hog’s Breath Joondalup.
Thanks for your support

Well done to all students who completed the cross country course. If you achieved your goal you hopefully experienced a feeling of accomplishment and pride and it’s now time to set a more challenging goal. If you didn’t achieve your goal you need to either re-evaluate your goal or push a bit harder next time. It was great to see most students push themselves beyond their comfort zone.
The overall results were:

Good luck to our Interschool Cross Country Team who compete today.

Linda has a file full of notes and some suggestions for upcoming events and is happy to help out the new applicant/s so you aren’t just thrown in the deep end. If you are interested in the role then please contact me to discuss it further at mariesa76@iinet.net.au

P&C Meeting
The next P&C meeting is Wednesday 6th August 7:30pm in the school library. New members always welcome.
Faction Carnival Merchandise
With the Faction Carnival fast approaching the P&C are busily putting together the merchandising fundraiser. An order form will be sent home over the next couple of weeks for you to order your faction tattoos and pom poms – we are planning to include some exciting new merchandise this year too! Merchandise sales will be subject to availability and there will be no sales on the day. We will also be sending home an order form for the Subways and Sushi lunch options for the Faction Carnival as they were so well supported last year, this will come home closer to the event.
Entertainment Book Orders
Calling out for final Entertainment Book orders!
If you haven't already ordered your Entertainment Book or Digital Membership yet, then please click on the link below. Just fill in the form and the book can be delivered to your classroom or the digital membership is sent to your mobile phone once you have downloaded the app. I have the digital app and it is really handy. While I am out and about, I can search for places in the area, or type in a specific business. This works so much better than carrying the book around, or missing out on a discount. All funds raised go back to the school to purchase resources for our kids.
