From the Principal
Dear Parents and Community,
Welcome back to the start of Term Two. What an exciting start to the term we have had with some restructuring throughout the school. I am pleased to say all students who moved classrooms have settled in beautifully and have been made welcome by their new class mates. It is as though the students have been in their new class all year not just over a week! As discussed at the parent meeting, some parents and staff had concerns about children adjusting to change but it has been amazing to see the resiliency and bravery of all students to the changes. This serves as a reminder for parents about the importance of building resilience in their children.
Building Resilience
Resilience is a 21st Century parenting concept that every parent needs to understand. Some kids are resilient by nature – their temperament helps them to be mentally and psychologically tough. We all know these kids. They get straight back up after a set back or disappointment. Rejection in the playground doesn’t faze them. Unfortunately, not every child has such natural resilience.
The good news is that most of the research shows that resilience can be nurtured and developed, particularly when parents themselves are resilient and they actively foster it in their kids.
Resilient kids share four basic skill sets – independence, problem-solving, optimism and social connection.
From a resilience perspective, parents need to coach kids through some of their more challenging moments and reviewing what they may have learnt for next time. Avoid solving all their problems for them.
You can promote a lasting sense of resilience in your kids by:
- Having a positive attitude yourself. Your attitude as a parent impacts on their ability to bounce back from some of the difficulties they face. Make sure you model a ‘you can do it’ attitude for your child when he/she meets some of life’s curve balls.
- Look for teachable moments. Many kids’ learning opportunities are disguised as problems. Make the most of these opportunities so that kids can grow and learn from some of the challenges they face.
- Make kids active participants in the family. Active participation in a family develops the self-help, problem-solving and independence skills of kids that are necessary for resilience.
- Build kids coping skills. There are plenty of strategies you can pass on to kids to help them cope when life doesn’t go their way, including acceptance, getting away for a while and normalisation.
Promoting resilience in kids is not a single event but a continuous process you can pass on to kids to help them cope when things don’t go their way. It also requires you as a parent to have an understanding of resilience, so you have faith in yourself, and your child’s ability to cope.
ANZAC Ceremony
On Friday 11th April our Student Council conducted our ANZAC Ceremony and all credit must go to these students for their organisation and presentation, which included all speaking parts. It was a moving ceremony showing great respect for our service men and women.

NAPLAN
Students in years 3, 5 and 7 will sit the annual NAPLAN testing next week. These tests focus on Literacy (Language Convention, Writing and Reading) and Numeracy. The results allow us to track student achievement over a number of years, assist in the review of the effectiveness of whole school programs and guide future planning for improved student achievement. Parents will receive their child’s NAPLAN report in September.
Faction Swimming Carnival
The year 4 – 7 faction swimming carnival was held at the end of Term 1. The students had a great time competing against their peers and endeavouring to achieve the personal goals they had set themselves. Thank you to all the parents who helped and attended on the day. The overall results were:

486 Points |
2nd Place |

417 Points |
3rd Place |

Camp Australia News
Welcome Back!!! Term 2
We started the week with children sharing their interesting and amazing holiday stories from around the world!! We learnt simple Indian and Chinese phrases and names from other cultures and it was nice to welcome new children.
We have enjoyed some old favourites as chosen by the children. This included soccer, cookie making, beading and sewing but by far the biggest hit was the arrival of our new cubby house. It was constructed and decorated and now we as a group are choosing a name for our cubby. On the last day of the week the Year Four students entertained us with an outstanding performance of dance and gymnastics mixed with singing and orations.
This week we are looking forward to some amazing creations for Mother’s Day and we will continue on with our “Tree of life” or “Acts of kindness” tree. Children who have demonstrated acts of kindness in any way have their names displayed on the tree. Through this initiative we hope to encourage positive behaviour and build reciprocal relationships amongst the children.
Also don’t forget photographs for our Family and Friends Wall!!! Last week Rhys and Kobe introduced us to their adorable new puppy, who now has a place on our wall.
Reminder: Please continue to encourage children to wear closed shoes so they can participate in all the awesome activities we have at camp Australia.
Please ring our customer service on 1300 105 343 if you are having any problems with registration or booking.
