14 February 2014

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Community

Welcome back to 2014 and another year at Madeley Primary. Our new buildings are nearly completed to the standard that I would like. We are pleased with the layout and size of these classrooms .The facilities in the building for students and teachers is a very welcoming sight considering that in year 4 class sizes can be 32 as compared to year 3 with 24 maximum.

Our staff is very stable this year with our only new staff member being Sharon Wandby who is working in the pre-primary one day per week. We have 4 kindergarten classes, 4 pre-primary classes and 17 year 1-7 classes.

Reminder Please- Student Arrival

Students should not be attending prior to 8.30 am for duty of care purposes. The school through Camp Australia provides a before and after care program to assist parents. This can be used on a regular basis or even a single situation- Please contact them if you have any questions on 1300 105 343.

Students who arrive before 8.30am are asked to wait outside the Principal’s office to be dismissed at 8.30 a.m. Students are asked not to use the play equipment before school. We appreciate your support in regard to these matters.

Safer Internet Day

Tuesday was Safer Internet Day so it’s timely to think about how we can support our children to use the Internet safely. We encourage parents and students to explore http://www.cybersmart.gov.au to learn about ways to stay safe in the ever changing online world.

Cybersmart is a national cybersafety and cybersecurity education program managed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), as part of the Australian Government's commitment to cybersafety. The program is specifically designed to meet the needs of its target audiences of children, young people, parents, teachers and library staff. Cybersmart is designed to support and encourage participation in the digital economy by providing information and education which empowers children to be safe online.

P&C News

The P&C AGM and first meeting for the year is on Wednesday 19th February at 7pm in the library. New members welcome, please remember to bring your $1 so you can join the P&C.

Save the Date – Easter on the Green will be on Friday 4th April this year. More details will be available closer to the time.

Walking School Bus

The Madeley walking school bus is up and walking for this year. There are plenty of spots still available so if you live near the school and would like your children to walk to school drop into the front office and pick up an information pack. Route 1 (Zeus/Martindale) walks

on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning and Route 2 (Chisholm link/Sovrano/Corbin/Lockport) walks on a Friday Morning. If you would like to become one of our friendly bus drivers or would like more information on the WSB, please contact Rochelle Kelly on 0438443968.

Canteen

Have you got some free time after school drop off in the morning? The school canteen would love some help, so if you have some time to spare, drop into the canteen and help flip pikelets, make cheesies and sandwiches. Any amount of time is appreciated!

The Molloy Cup

Once again the Molloy Family would like to thank everyone for their generous support at ‘The Molloy Cup’. The spa was installed shortly before Christmas and whilst it is helping the boys with their physio program, they are also having lots of fun.

Uniform Shop Update

We still have a large amount of polo shirts and dresses in stock, so please come and see us if you need any of these items. We will commence our winter stock orders soon, however we do have some jackets and long sleeved polo shirts in stock if you would like to get in early.

Reminder that opening hours are Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8.30 am until approximately 9.15 am
