It is hard to believe we are already at the end of Week 3, Term 2.
This is going to be a busy term, encompassing the Year 5/6 Lightning Carnival, various incursions and excursions, school photos, Faction Cross Country and of course school reports. Please check the School Calendar for all these important dates.
School Development Day
Please remember our school will be closed for our Term 2 School Development Day which falls on Friday 30th May, backing on to the WA Day long weekend, providing students a 4 day weekend break mid-term.
Voluntary Contributions and Charges 2024
A very big thank you to all parents who have paid their contributions and charges. This funding supports the purchase of school resources for all learning areas as well as the library. The winner of this year’s $200 prize was the Foley family. Congratulations to Kadi, Con and family.
2024 Annual School Report
Madeley PS’s Annual Report for 2024 is now available on the school website for public viewing. This summarizes the school performance and achievements over the year, to be shared with the school community.
Parent Voice Matters: Highlights from Our Term 1 School Culture Survey
Thank you to all the families who took part in our Term 1 School Culture Survey. We received 119 responses, representing around 33% of our school community. Your input plays a vital role in shaping the future of our school, and we truly appreciate the time taken to share your thoughts. The survey responses provided valuable insight into what we’re doing well and where we can continue to grow.
Celebrating Our Strengths We’re proud to share some key areas where parents feel our school is thriving:
Children have a strong sense of pride and belonging at our school.
Staff genuinely care about the wellbeing of students.
Our teachers are professional, committed and enthusiastic.
Families feel welcomed when they are in the school.
Opportunities for Improvement We also appreciate the honest feedback that helps guide our improvement journey. Based on your responses, we’ll be focusing on:
Improving communication about how school decisions are made and how they benefit student learning.
Seeking feedback from the school community on big decisions, where appropriate.
Better informing families about how we use data and evidence to guide our planning and priorities.
We are committed to acting on this feedback and working in partnership with you to continue building a supportive, inclusive, and high-achieving school environment for all students.
Walk Safely to School Day
Active kids are healthy kids! Walk Safely to School Day was held today. We encourage all families to support this initiative in walking with their children to school as often as possible. This not only helps with health and fitness outcomes for students but also with the congestion around the school at pick up and drop off times. It was great to see so many people walking to school today and joining in a Running Club afterwards. What a great way to start a Friday.
Students Arriving Late
Any students arriving late after the siren at 8.35 must report to the office so they can be checked off as present. If this is not done parents will receive an SMS informing them of their child’s absence.
Uniforms
As the days are getting colder and our students begin wearing warmer clothing, we would like to remind families that winter jackets need to be either the Madeley Uniform navy fleece jacket or a plain navy jacket, free of any labels or logos. Plain navy blue leggings or track pants can be worn on the bottom. The Madeley Primary School uniform can be purchased from Wanneroo Uniforms. Further details of our dress code and uniform shop hours can be found on our website.
Money
I would like to remind parents that children should only be bringing money to school for canteen purchases, or for fundraising ventures within the school which will be advertised through the school newsletter and SeeSaw notices.
Parking
The safety of our students is critical to us at MPS. Safe and legal parking is an ongoing issue at our school; therefore we remind all parents to please do the right thing by driving and parking safely and legally around our school. Kiss-and-Drive bays are not for parking and should be vacated as quickly as possible to maintain the flow of traffic. Parking in the staff car park, disabled bays or on pathways or grass around the school is illegal and results in damage to our reticulation, safety concerns, as well as damaged cars. Please be patient and wait until a car bay becomes available.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Lainie Beccegato
Principal

Asthma First Aid
Children with asthma can quickly become seriously ill. Asthma needs to be taken seriously. A child with a serious asthma attack may not sound wheezy, but may be pale, quiet and/or breathing with quick shallow gasps.
If a someone is short of breath and wheezing from asthma, follow his or her Asthma Management Plan, or these first aid steps:
Step 1 - Sit the person upright, remain calm and help the person stay Do not leave the person alone.
Step 2 - Quickly give four puffs of a reliever puffer (blue puffer), one puff at a time. This is best given through a spacer. Ask the person to take four breaths from the spacer after each puff. Use the puffer on its own if no spacer is available.
Step 3 - Wait four If there is little or no improvement, repeat steps 2 & 3.
Step 4 - If there is still little or no improvement, call an ambulance immediately -
Continue to repeat steps two and three while waiting for the

Asthma - Tips For Parents
If your child lives with asthma:
Find out and control or reduce trigger factors if possible, for example; by reducing exposure to household dust, or keeping pets outside.
Keep your home and car smoke
Watch for signs of asthma when your child has a Be ready to start the asthma management plan as soon as symptoms appear.
If your child is unwell, tired and not full of energy, check with a doctor to assess if asthma management needs to be improved or changed.
Help your child to take as much responsibility as possible for managing his or her own
Children with asthma should be encouraged to exercise or take part in sport, in order to strengthen their chest muscles and to keep fit. For some children, exercise may trigger an asthma attack. Children who cough, wheeze or become extremely breathless with exercise should be seen by a doctor.
Using reliever medication, prescribed by your Doctor, before exercise, will reduce symptoms for most children who have asthma.
It is important to teach children how they can prevent their asthma attacks by using a puffer. Guidelines for the management of asthma and exercise are available through the Asthma Foundation of WA website www.asthmawa.org.au
Bedwetting
Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is very common in children. Bedwetting has nothing to do with dreaming, and children who wet the bed are not “just being lazy”.
If your child wets the bed, there are a number of things you can do to help, such as using a waterproof mattress cover and establishing a before-bed toilet routine. It is not helpful to punish children who wet the bed. Fluids should not be restricted, even before bedtime. Sugary or caffeinated drinks should be avoided.
If your child is still wetting the bed after five and a half years of age, seek help through a referral by your local doctor. A bedwetting alarm is an effective and safe method of treatment available for nocturnal enuresis and may be appropriate for your child.
Contact your local Community Health Nurse or Community Health Centre, for more information.
