Welcome back to the final term for 2024. We have an exciting array of activities planned for this term including the Madeley Cup, Remembrance Day, student leadership speeches and selections, camps and excursions, Madeley’s Got Talent, end of year reports and Year 6 graduation. We look forward to a fun and productive final term for the year.
Public School review
All Western Australian schools are reviewed by the Department of Education. Term 4, 2024 sees Madely Primary School undertake our Public School Review (PSR). This is a process in which a school’s performance in delivering high quality education for its students is assessed against an expected standard. A variety of staff, student and parent representatives are involved in the PSR process which will take place on November 7th, 2024. Two independent reviewers from within the Department of Education will undertake the review, with commendations and recommendations being made following the review.
2025 Student Leaders
It is that time of year again when our Year 5 students begin to process of nominating for leadership roles and preparing their speeches. Mrs Clark will be speaking with the Year 5’s on Monday regarding the expectations for each leadership role, and students will be receiving their Nomination forms. We ask that parents discuss the importance and responsibilities of each role, ensuring students understand they are electing to be a leader for the full year, outlining all that the role entails as outlined on the nomination forms. Parents are required to approve and sign their child’s nomination forms prior to students returning them to school.
Nominations are due 11th Nov and to be placed in the tray in the front office.
Speeches will be held on the 18th and 19th . These are to be 2-3 minutes long.
Madeley’s Got Talent
MGT will be held on 4th December. Student should be busy planning and rehearsing their acts, as auditions will be held on the 12th November. Registration Forms are due in by 7th November.
World Teachers’ Day: Today we celebrated World Teachers’ Day.The following is a quote I love; "An educator takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart“ I would like to thank and acknowledge all of our teachers and education assistants for their dedication, effort, time and unwavering commitment to enhancing the social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students at Madeley PS. We thank and applaud you all!
Madeley PS Dress Code
Madeley Primary School has a community endorsed dress code that, in accordance with the School Education Act of 1999, ALL students are to conform with unless otherwise directed. The cooperation of parents is sought in setting and maintaining a high standard of dress, appearance and cleanliness from their child by ensuring that they conform to the Dress Code. The Dress Code also promotes a positive image of the school by ensuring a high standard of presentation.
Navy shorts, leggings, skorts or skirts are to be worn with the Madeley PS shirt, jumper, jacket and hat.
Other general requirements are:
Clothing which has advertising or denim is not permitted.
Make-up and jewellery are not appropriate.
Single plain studs or sleepers may be worn in the earlobes.
Long hair should be tied back for health and safety reasons.
Thongs, slides, backless sandals and other forms of open footwear must not be worn.
A school bucket/broad-brimmed hat must be worn whenever working or playing outside.
Changes to Reporting to Parents for 2025
The Department of Education has recently provided clarification of the new requirements for Pre-Primary to Year 10 end-of-semester reports. Our current processes are beyond the reporting requirements and, as such, we have sought feedback from staff to make changes to our end-of-semester reporting. Whilst we have made some adjustments, as a school, we feel it is important to continue to report at a strand level, to provide greater clarity in students progress and achievement. Reports for Semester 2, 2024, will include:
Kindy:
A student achievement descriptor (grade) for the areas of: Identity, Connecting & Contributing, Wellbeing, Learning & Thinking, and Communication.
A general comment that is individualised and personalised for each student.
Pre-Primary to Year 6:
Report grades at strand level in all learning areas.
A summary of students’ learning for specialist subjects (classroom teachers provide this information in overviews sent via SeeSaw at the commencement of each term).
A general comment that is individualised and personalised for each student.
Please keep an eye out for further information coming soon regarding 2024 end of year reports.
Changes to the 1-to-1 Program for 2025
2025 will see the 1-to-1 program running for students in Years 5 and 6 only. A parent information session will not be held this year, however a session for 2026 Year 5 students will be held in Term 4, 2025.
Planning for 2025
We are starting the process of planning classes and classroom structures for next year. If your child will be leaving Madeley Primary by the end of 2024, please advise the school office as soon as possible by emailing madeley.ps@education.wa.edu.au or 9306 6900.
Student enrolments determine what our staffing allocation will be, so we need to be accurate in our planning. This term we will begin planning classes for 2025. Considerations for how classes are formed include:
structures based on enrolment numbers per year level and recommended class sizes. Classes are then constructed to maintain a gender balance and an even distribution of student needs/abilities in each class.
We aim to maintain at least one friendship for each child.
Composite classes are an inevitability, of which we have no control. Students are not disadvantaged by such arrangements. The same class selection approach is taken in these classes as with all others. We do try our best to avoid repeated years in composite classes, where possible.
The process we use:
A draft class structure is created based on student enrolment numbers.
Staff meet to discuss and allocate students to draft classes, consideration is given to:
Student academic needs
Student behavioural needs
Student social needs
Gender balance
Previous placement in composite class
Parent requests, based on specific educational need
Admin review draft classes and meet with staff to clarify, modify, confirm classes.
Staff meet to discuss final placements (this may involve multiple meetings)
Classes will be displayed for parents on Connect. This information is posted on Tuesday 30th Jan 2024 as there is often a review of class structures when staff return in the new year and a restructure of classes could take place.
Requests related to class placement
If there is a matter, relating to your child’s specific learning needs, that you would like the school leadership team to consider in relation to classroom placements, you may submit a request in writing. Please note that we do not take requests for particular classroom teachers, nor for classroom makeup (ie split classes). I would like to assure all families that we go to great lengths to structure classes to meet the needs of every student. This is a complex process that is given a great deal of time and effort. Submissions should be emailed to Libby Clark (elizabeth.clark2@education.wa.edu.au) before the end of Week 6 – Friday,15th November. Requests received after this time will not be considered.
Open Board Meeting
Our next Board meeting is an open board meeting whereby any parents who are not board members are welcome to join us. It is held in the staffroom at 5:30pm on Wednesday 27th Nov.

Building Your Child's Self Esteem Good self-esteem helps children and young people to try new things, take healthy risks and solve problems. Positive self-esteem provides children with a solid foundation for their learning and development and enables them to feel good about themselves. Parents can help build the self-esteem of their children by frequently doing the following with them: • Say “I love you” • Develop and maintain special daily rituals • Let your children help you • Let your child make mistakes and solve some of their own problems • Praise children for trying • Show an interest in the sports or hobbies they are interested in • Eat meals as a family • Seek out one-on-one opportunities often • Praise desirable behaviour (praise should be genuine and specific) • Correct negative behaviour firmly but lovingly • Respect their choices • Celebrate your child’s successes - big and small • Make your children a priority in your life.
