Madeley On The Green: We were very excited to have our annual event held again this year – albeit with a change of name and a change of day. Holding our event on a Saturday aided the set up of the event, with minimal impact on the student’s school day. I would really like to acknowledge our amazing P & C, who all worked so tirelessly to make this event happen again. I would like to also thank Kane Pountney for allowing us use of his AV equipment, Kenny Yu and ID Athletic our major sponsors and Margaret Quirk MLA for their contributions. Thanks also to all the volunteers on the night who helped in so many ways to create a wonderful evening for all. It was great to see so many community members enjoying the festivities on what was a wonderful night!
New Playground for Oval: Recently Madeley PS was fortunate enough to have won a grant to support students’ wellbeing. Our proposal is to place a Ninja Course on the oval, closest to the path backing onto Kindy. In addition to the grant, our P & C have agreed to support us with $25K to put towards the new playground for the oval, with the school contributing the remaining funds required. It will be built next term, hopefully with completion by mid-term. We can’t wait.
Parking: Our students’ safety is our primary concern. Therefore, safe and legal parking around our school continues to be an ongoing concern. We kindly remind all parents to do the right thing by driving and parking safely and legally around our school. Kiss-and-Drive bays are not for parking and should be vacated as quickly as possible to maintain the flow of traffic. However, they can be parked in between 9:30am – 2:20pm. Parking in the driveway of the Pre-Primary car park and on pathways is illegal and parking on the grassed areas surrounding parking areas is also not permitted as it results in safety concerns. Please be patient and wait until a car bay becomes available. Patience, kindness and respect are all virtues we need to model when driving and parking around our school. We thank you for your consideration.
Students walking to school: Safety concerns have also been raised regarding students crossing Cooper Street, near Olivedale Road. This is a busy corner before and after school and we ask families to remind their children to be vigilant when crossing the road. Perhaps asking children to cross before or after the intersection will reduce the risk of crossing Cooper Street.
Uniforms: A reminder that all students must wear their broad-brimmed school hat at all recess and lunch times in support of our ‘No Hat, No Play” policy. This policy is in place all year round. With the cooler weather commencing I would like to remind you to ensure all clothing is clearly labelled, especially school jumpers. We find many jumpers strewn around the school on a daily basis and cannot return them to their owners if they are not labelled.
Lost Property:The Lost Property box is outside the Undercover Area. Students and parents should check this for lost items and only take things that belong to them. Unclaimed school uniform items are eventually recycled.
Swimming Lessons:Swimming lessons will be help in weeks 8 and 9 of Term 2. Please keep an eye out for paperwork coming home regarding swimming lessons.
School Development Day: Term 2 will see out School Development Day held on Friday 26th April, the day after ANZAC Day, making it an extra long weekend for students.
School Security During the Holidays: We rely on the community for support to keep our school secure and safe during the holiday period. Parents are asked to keep an eye on our school during the holiday period and report any suspicious behaviour to Education Security on 9264 4632 or Police 131 444. The Education Security phone number is also on signage around the outside of the school fencing.
I hope all families enjoy a wonderful school holiday break. We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 15th April, 2024. Please note that Tuesday 25th April is an ANZAC Day public holiday.
Kind regards,
Lainie Beccegato

BLA1 - Geography
In Year 5/6 BLA1 we have been studying Asia in Geography. The continent is one of the most geographically diverse continents in the world.
The Year 6's have been comparing and contrasting the climate, vegetation, landforms, rivers, demographics and lifestyles of at least 2 Asian countries.
The Year 5's have been identifying and explaining how the community, environment and people are impacted by natural hazards (either earthquakes or volcanos) in Asia.
We will continue to research and create our projects this term with presentations starting next term.
GRIP Student Leader Conference
Our Student Leaders attended the Grip Student Leadership Conference at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 18th March.
It was a practical and interactive conference where the students were able to develop their leadership skills. The topics included:
How Everybody Can Step Forward and Lead
The Sacrifices of a Student Leader
Stepping Forward with New Ideas
The Extra Step- Doing the Things that Leaders Often Forget
The conference was very insightful and we hope the student leaders learnt a lot about leadership.

Building Your Child's Self Esteem Good self-esteem helps children and young people to try new things, take healthy risks and solve problems. Positive self-esteem provides children with a solid foundation for their learning and development and enables them to feel good about themselves. Parents can help build the self-esteem of their children by frequently doing the following with them: • Say “I love you” • Develop and maintain special daily rituals • Let your children help you • Let your child make mistakes and solve some of their own problems • Praise children for trying • Show an interest in the sports or hobbies they are interested in • Eat meals as a family • Seek out one-on-one opportunities often • Praise desirable behaviour (praise should be genuine and specific) • Correct negative behaviour firmly but lovingly • Respect their choices • Celebrate your child’s successes - big and small • Make your children a priority in your life.
